Program Coordinator (Metabolic/Bariatric Program)
role at MedStar Health – MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. This position oversees the day-to-day operations, clinical coordination, and regulatory compliance of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program. The role serves as the central liaison between patients, the multidisciplinary clinical team, and accrediting bodies. The ideal candidate is a licensed Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a strong background in case management, patient education, and bariatric/metabolic care. Responsibilities
Coordinate the full continuum of care for bariatric surgery patients from intake through post-operative follow-up. Serve as the primary point of contact and advocate for patients, ensuring timely education, scheduling, preoperative clearance, and support. Facilitate and track patient progress throughout all program milestones. Support pre-op education sessions, group classes, and follow-up visits. Act as liaison between surgical, nursing, dietetic, behavioral health, and administrative teams to ensure coordinated care delivery. Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews and surgical planning meetings. Coordinate with insurance specialists for benefit verification and authorization processes. Maintain documentation and data collection systems required for MBSAQIP standards. Lead program preparation for site surveys, internal audits, and quality improvement initiatives. Monitor quality indicators and patient outcomes, identifying opportunities for improvement. Assist in program growth strategies, including referral development, physician outreach, and community education. Support marketing and awareness efforts in collaboration with the communications team. Coordinate support groups and community education sessions for pre- and post-operative patients. Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
Licensed RN, LPN, or LCSW in Washington, DC. Minimum 3 years of clinical experience, preferably in bariatrics, surgery, care coordination, or a related specialty. Strong patient education and counseling skills. Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing, Social Work, or a related health science field. Prior experience with MBSAQIP standards and survey preparation. Certification in Bariatric Nursing (CBN) or similar is highly desirable. Experience with EMR systems and clinical databases (e.g., EPIC, MBSAQIP registry). Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree preferred; consideration given to a suitable combination of education/training and experience. Experience
2 years of medical/clinical office and/or administrative experience required. Ability to perform in a high-pressure environment; previous experience with computerized scheduling systems and supervisory experience preferred. Licenses and Certifications
Licensed or registered healthcare professional in the state or district where the position is located. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
