The Orthopedic, Neurosurgery & Physiatry Service Line at St. Charles Health System provides ambulatory, procedural, and inpatient care. This service line includes approximately 60 providers representing the full spectrum of neuromusculoskeletal care. The team collaborates with the Bend-hospital based acute surgery and trauma team in developing a robust trauma program for the Central Oregon community. POSITION OVERVIEW:

Neurosurgeons provide medical, surgical, and postoperative management of patients undergoing orthopedic surgery. They collaborate with other medical specialties and primarily work in the Bend hospital, Cascade SurgiCenter, and Bend Surgery Center, performing elective and acute surgeries. Orthopedic Surgeons also see patients in a clinical setting and work collaboratively with APPs in patient care. Work schedule:

Physicians will have roughly 32 patient-facing hours per week as a 1.0 FTE, blending hospital rounding, procedure block time, and scheduled clinic visits, recognizing that the minimum requirement may fluctuate based on direct patient care. Call expectation:

Surgeons are expected to participate in the orthopedic call rotation, shared equally by participating Surgeons. Work location:

Primary clinic work location will be in Bend, with potential outreach clinics. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: Examines, diagnoses, and provides a broad scope of neurosurgical conditions. Performs patient examinations and records pertinent medical history. Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Administers and prescribes medications in compliance with state law. Instructs patients and families regarding medications and treatments. Maintains and reviews patient records, documenting clearly and concisely. Communicates effectively with colleagues and patients. Participates in creating a healing environment and provides first-rate customer service. Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and health system policies. EDUCATION: Required: Graduation from an accredited medical school. Completion of an accredited residency program in Neurosurgery. Board eligibility/certification in the specialty being practiced. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Required: Oregon license as MD/DO. Board certified or eligible in Neurosurgery. Current ATLS certification required. EXPERIENCE: Preferred:

Experience in hospital and outpatient practice environments providing care in Neurosurgery. GENERAL: Must have excellent communication skills. Strong team working and collaborative skills. Excellent organizational skills and customer service skills. Intermediate proficiency with Electronic Medical Record systems. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Continually (75% or more): Use of clear and audible speaking voice and ability to hear normal speech level. Frequently (50%): Sitting, standing, walking, lifting 1-10 pounds. Occasionally (25%): Bending, climbing stairs, reaching overhead. Rarely (10%): Stooping/kneeling/crouching, lifting 11-15 pounds. Never (0%): Climbing ladder/step-stool, lifting 25-50 pounds.
