The organization is diverse and community-based, with programs recognized nationally for excellence. Lowell Community Health Center was named one of the top five health centers in the nation for cultural competency, with employees speaking 28 languages and over 80 trained in medical interpreting. Patients trust Lowell Community Health Center, reaching nearly 50,000 people annually—almost half the population of Lowell. Over 90% of patients are low income, with 46% speaking a language other than English. Since opening our new facility in 2012, over 9,000 additional patients have sought comprehensive primary care, including OB-GYN and behavioral health services, with over 176,000 visits in 2014. We also operate a pharmacy serving the health center and the community. This position combines administrative duties and Medical Assistant responsibilities. The incumbent schedules appointments, checks patients in and out, makes confirmation calls, and handles pre- and post-visit communications regarding referrals, procedures, and insurance. Under the supervision of a Lead Medical Assistant and medical providers, the Medical Assistant provides direct patient care within a multidisciplinary practice, collaborating to ensure integrated patient care and maintaining communication within the healthcare team. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provides direct and non-direct patient care based on training and experience. Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms. Prepares patients for examinations. Communicates professionally with patients, visitors, and staff. Reports any issues to Clinical Leadership. Performs supply inventory and stocks supplies in exam rooms. Assists with managing referrals and scheduling for specialty providers. Translates for providers as per standards. Performs dictation for providers as needed. Monitors refrigerator temperatures daily. Maintains infection control practices, especially with isolated or reverse precautions. Follows universal precautions handling blood and body fluids. Adheres to TB precautions according to clinic policy. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, a current Medical Assistant Certificate, and CPR BLS certification. Bilingual applicants in Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Swahili, or Khmer are strongly encouraged.
