Overview

The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System's Primary Care Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Primary Care Pain Physician. Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. You must be an excellent communicator and a team player who is adaptable to the needs of a growing medical center. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship; or non-citizens as allowed by VA policy when qualified citizens cannot be recruited; degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent in medicine or osteopathic medicine; degree obtained from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year completed; current full and unrestricted medical/surgical license in any US state/territory/ commonwealth or DC; completed residency training in an approved core specialty (Family Medicine or Internal Medicine) leading to eligibility for board certification; for academic training, board certification may be required for faculty status; approved residencies include ACGME, AOA, or other US or non-US residencies with sufficient US practice experience as deemed by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee; residents may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) under supervision; PRPs must be fully licensed and may be intermittent/fee-basis; PRPs are not independent practitioners; eligible residents in gap years may be appointed as PRPs; proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: Board certified or board eligible in Addiction Medicine (or plan to achieve within conditional hiring period) and Internal Medicine or Family Medicine. Alternative pain management skills (osteopathic manipulation, acupuncture, chiropractic, massage, healing touch) and comfortable prescribing Suboxone; experience with joint injections and trigger point injections; fellowship training in Pain Management and Addiction; one-year post-residency in pain management and addiction training. Additional Requirements: Verification of licensure, ability to pass pre-employment physical examination per VA Handbook 5019; physical capacity to perform duties (lifting up to 44 lbs, carrying up to 15 lbs, frequent reaching above shoulder, use of hands/feet, operating equipment including cranes and motor vehicles, walking/standing up to 8 hours, bending/climbing, hearing). Other: The incumbent must be physically, emotionally, and mentally stable to perform essential functions without hazard to self or others. Duties

Provide comprehensive pain management care within the assigned clinic structure in Bay Pines VA Healthcare System. Manage ongoing patient care including examination, medical care management, consultation coordination, referrals, and development/operation of quality assurance and utilization programs including peer reviews and coordination with community clinics and services. Coordinate comprehensive pain management care according to VA guidelines and sound medical practice; refer to manage clinical concerns identified during evaluations. Collaborate with clinical and administrative supports to provide timely, high-quality, coordinated care for Veterans; work with other facility departments and staff on Pain Management-related projects. Serve as collaborating physician for inpatient and outpatient pain pharmacology services for anesthesia/pain management of inpatient and post-operative patients as applicable. Provide consultation on opioid addiction issues for patients without comorbid substance abuse or active mental health issues. Work Schedule: Monday–Friday 8:00 am–4:30 pm (schedules determined by supervisor); may be required to work various shifts as needed. Other Information
