Job Summary:
The Division of Infectious Diseases (ID) is recruiting a faculty member at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (Anschutz Medical Campus) for the role of Hospital Epidemiologist and Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Control, University of Colorado Hospital (UCH). This physician will have primary duties in clinical infectious diseases at University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) with special interest and experience in Infection Prevention and Control (IP) and hospital epidemiology. Responsibilities will include infectious diseases consultative services, active involvement in the ID Division (e.g., participation in educational activities), and leadership of UCH Infection Prevention (IP) activities and programs. Applicants must have completed an accredited Infectious Diseases fellowship and be ABIM board eligible or board certified in Infectious Diseases. Training/experience in hospital epidemiology and infection prevention and control are beneficial. Applicants will ideally have demonstrated aptitude for scholarly achievement. Applicants with experience in hospital epidemiology and/or an MPH, in addition to MD/DO, are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience in basic, translational or clinical research in Infectious Diseases is also welcome as we seek to expand research activities around IP.
Key Responsibilities:
Medial Director of Infection Prevention - 85%
Infectious Disease Clinical Attending, inpatient and/or outpatient - 15%.

The Medical Director of Infection Prevention serves jointly with the Manager of Infection Prevention as a Leadership Dyad to provide clinical and administrative leadership for Infection Prevention.
Oversight of program surveillance for healthcare-associated infections and epidemiologically significant organisms
Identifying and investigating clusters or outbreaks of infection
Analyzing procedure and device-associated infections
Creating evidence-based interventions to prevent healthcare-associated infections
Evaluating methods and technologies to reduce transmission of pathogens within the institution
Creating and maintaining appropriate infection control policies
Contributing to educational programs regarding infection control for all hospital employees, physicians, and trainees
Providing consultation to health care providers in the assessment and management of patients and employees with communicable diseases
Providing feedback to occupational health and safety programs related to infection control and prevention
Advising hospital senior leadership on issues related to reduction of infection risks and regulatory requirements
Participating in ongoing programs and initiatives for continuous quality assessment, quality improvement, and infection risk reduction (e.g., hand hygiene promotion and monitoring)
The Medical Director, in conjunction with their relevant dyadic partner, annually develops shared goals and objectives and key results (OKRs) for Infection Prevention.
Appointment:
The Medical Director for Infection Prevention will be appointed by the UCHealth Infection Prevention and Control Senior Medical Director with input from the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) CMO, relevant Associate Chief Medical Officers (ACMOs), relevant Department Chair (or Division Head, as appropriate) and concurrence from the UCH CNO (or designee) and/or UCH COO (or designee). Ongoing appointment as Medical Director will be on an annual basis by the UCHealth Infection Prevention and Control Senior Medical Director with input from the UCH CMO, relevant Associate Chief Medical Officers (ACMOs), relevant Department Chair (or Division Head, as appropriate) and concurrence from the UCH CNO (or designee) and/or UCH COO (or designee).
Accountability : The Medical Director is accountable to the UCHealth Infection Prevention and Control Senior Medical Director for performance of the Infection Prevention program. The Medical Director of Infection Prevention is accountable to the UCHealth Infection Prevention and Control Senior Medical Director for their performance as a Medical Director. Annual evaluation of Medical Director performance will be completed by the UCHealth Infection Prevention and Control Senior Medical Director with input from the UCH CMO, CQO and CNO. Medical Director annual performance evaluations will be shared with the individual's academic Division Head and Department Chair.All existing academic reporting and accountability relationships remain intact and are not supplanted by Medical Director reporting, accountability or evaluation processes.
