Tampa General Hospital (TGH) is home to one of the nation’s leading transplant centers, with over 12,000 transplants performed to date. The Liver Transplant Program is consistently ranked among the top ten nationally and is distinguished by its high volume, excellent clinical outcomes, and commitment to innovation and health equity. The program performs an average of 145 liver transplants annually since 2019 and completed 279 liver transplants in 2024 alone. Our hepatologists care for a diverse population with complex liver disease, supported by advanced technologies and seamless integration with transplant surgery. The Institute is actively involved in over 70 clinical trials, including studies in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and liver transplantation outcomes. This position encompasses the full scope of general and transplant hepatology, including pre- and post-transplant care. The successful candidate will participate in teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and gastroenterology fellows from the University of South Florida (USF), where TGH serves as the primary teaching hospital for the Morsani College of Medicine. Position Highlights Clinical responsibilities include both general hepatology and transplant hepatology, with involvement in pre- and post-transplant patient care. Faculty appointment at USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, with opportunities for academic advancement. Active participation in teaching and mentoring of rotating medical students, residents, and GI fellows. Opportunities to engage in clinical research, with flexibility in clinical effort based on prior experience and academic interests (e.g., grant funding). Collaborative, multidisciplinary environment with a strong focus on innovation and outcomes. Research Focus Areas Faculty are encouraged to participate in ongoing research initiatives, including: ·

NAFLD & NASH:

Development of novel therapeutics and biomarkers for diagnosis, staging, and treatment. ·

Cirrhosis & Liver Decompensation:

Early intervention strategies and predictors of disease progression. ·

Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC):

Targeted therapies, surveillance models, and early detection in high-risk populations. ·

Liver Transplantation Outcomes:

Studies on post-transplant disease recurrence and quality of life. Qualifications · MD or equivalent from an accredited School of Medicine. · Completion of an accredited residency program. · Board eligible/board certified in Transplant Hepatology and Gastroenterology. · Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Florida. · Clinical research experience preferred but not required. · All experience levels are encouraged to apply.
