The Cardiac Anesthesiologist Physician position is located in the Anesthesiology Service at the Manhattan VA Medical Center. This position supports the Network 2 Mission to care for our Veterans with compassion and excellence. It involves providing a broad range of anesthesiology interventions to Veterans receiving care at the VAMC. The successful candidate will work as a cooperative and collegial team member with the entire staff.
Qualifications
To qualify, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license completion applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Existing VA physicians who met previous qualification standards are deemed to have met the current basic requirements.
Basic Requirements
US Citizenship (non-citizens only if recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible)
Doctor of medicine or osteopathic medicine degree from an approved school
Current full and unrestricted medical license in the US
Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification, in an accredited core specialty
Residents in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) under supervision
Proficiency in spoken and written English
TEE experience/certification is required
Physical requirements per VA Directive and Handbook 5019
Duties
Provide cardiac anesthesia services at the Manhattan VA, including cases involving valves, CABG, TAVR, and structural heart disease
Participate in cardiac call schedule on a rotational basis
Prepare and execute anesthetic plans for TAVR and other cardiac procedures, anticipating and managing complications
Participate in team meetings, preoperative evaluations, and documentation
Assist in managing emergent situations and complications during procedures
