Job Overview: RWJ Barnabas Health is looking for a qualified Director of Patient Care who will be the nursing leader in the daily functioning of the Post Intensive Care Unit-II at Rahway Hospital. This individual will oversee the delivery of quality patient care for all patients within this sector. They will work with the clinical nursing staff to establish a culture of best practices through a common vision, language, goals, and metrics. Serve as a catalyst and role model, providing administrative leadership and direction. Responsible for the allocation of available resources to promote autonomous, effective, safe, cost-efficient, and compassionate quality care. Facilitate an atmosphere of interactive management and develop collegial relationships among nursing personnel and other disciplines, including the healthcare community. The DPC is responsible for aligning clinical staff with RWJUHR Pillar goals. The DPC is accountable for 24/7 management of the acute care environment and must create learning experiences that are open, respectful, and promote the sharing of expertise. This ability to enhance the practice environment is critical to the recruitment and retention of staff. During emergencies, the Director Patient Care may be asked to assist with house coverage when all attempts to cover the shift have been exhausted. Qualifications: Graduate of a National League for Nursing accredited School of Nursing. 7-10 years of direct experience as a licensed NJ RN with a BSN. 2 years experience in a nursing acute care leadership role or enrollment in a BSN program in an NLN-accredited school (must be completed within the first year of starting the Nurse Manager role). Critical Care experience. Evidence of leadership ability. Broad knowledge of healthcare administration, practices, and principles within a healthcare system. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to emphasize positivity and provide clear direction. Ability to stay current with nursing competencies to meet standards of national, state, and hospital accreditation. Current RN licensure in New Jersey. Current American Heart Association CPR/BLS and ACLS certification. National certification. Unit-specific certification will be required. Scheduling Requirements: Full-Time Day Shift Essential Functions: Lead, mentor, and coach staff, using critical thinking and clinical expertise to solve problems, resolve conflicts, and address ethical issues. Hold regular staff meetings. Provide education and mentoring regarding new policies, processes, computer updates, and clinical skills. Support, implement, and evaluate continuous quality improvement initiatives. Maintain active involvement with the implementation of Information Technology and monitor its effect on patient care. Allocate staffing based on competency, patient acuity, and productivity standards. Ensure nursing care is appropriate, evaluated as needed, and incorporates current evidence-based practices. Participate in root cause analysis investigations related to sentinel events. Maintain a physical presence on the unit during all shifts to manage work processes, patient flow, environmental issues, and crisis intervention, including responding to Codes/Rapid Response/BAT Codes. Foster interdisciplinary collaboration and communication. Participate in policy formulation, ensuring evidence-based practices are incorporated. Oversee incident recording through the Peminic System during shifts. Ensure staff practice complies with regulatory requirements and safety goals. Handle interviewing, hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions, including termination. Monitor and evaluate the patient care environment to identify potential risks and ensure patient safety and advocacy. Use feedback systems to communicate patient and family issues and refer to patient advocates as needed. Proactively implement new processes and procedures, e.g., TCAPS.
