Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources—Employee Relations, the Employee Relations Partner is responsible for advising managers and HR Business Partners (HRBPs) regarding employee relations situations and the interpretation of personnel policies, state/federal and employment laws. The incumbent provides comprehensive internal employee consultation across BWH, may prepare responses to internal and external complaints, conduct investigations, write reports and present findings and recommendations. The incumbent will develop and evaluate employee relations trends/themes and proactively make recommendations to address root causes. The incumbent will assess and conduct training on employee relations and partner with HRBPs to implement recommendations. The incumbent may partner with MGB Centers of Excellence (COEs) including the Employee Relations/Labor Relations team and the Office of General Counsel as needed. Advises HRBPs, managers and executives system-wide on employee relations issues including workplace violence, discrimination, harassment, substance abuse, abusive conduct, reductions in force, privacy breaches, etc. Conducts sensitive, confidential investigations; prepares reports, presents findings, and makes recommendations to address root causes. Consults with ER/LR COE, HRBPs, and HR Leadership as appropriate. Partners with Sr. Employee Relations Consultant to evaluate trends/themes across the organization to identify and address root causes. Collaborates with HRBPs, Learning & Organizational Development, Employee/Labor Relations, and local ER colleagues; educates employees, managers, and leaders on effective management practices and leadership styles. Uses data and analytics to guide managers in enhancing diversity and inclusion, workplace culture, and employee engagement. Partners with system ER/LR COE and Office of General Counsel to prepare responses to complaints filed with MCAD, EEOC or other agencies; may attend hearings or arbitrations as appropriate. Consults with HRBPs and managers on processing problem resolution cases; assists with gathering documentation and leads investigations as necessary. Collaborates with ER/LR Center of Excellence to create, customize, and present workshops on employee relations issues (e.g., harassment, progressive discipline, employment and labor laws, workplace violence, ADA/FMLA). Conducts climate surveys to assess environmental tone and works with ER/LR, HRBP and managers to develop action plans. Manages interactive dialogue for reasonable accommodations in partnership with Occupational Health, HRBPs, and leadership; handles complex cases with ER/LR as needed. Maintains current knowledge of employment and labor laws; assists with developing, updating, and interpreting employee relations policies and procedures. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with colleagues; may support HRBP responsibilities including organizational change, data analytics, coaching, policy interpretation, training development, and committee participation. Escalates issues to senior leadership as needed using independent judgment. Performs other duties and projects as assigned. Responsibilities and Qualifications
Requirements:
Bachelors degree or equivalent experience, plus two to three years in an Employee Relations/Labor Relations Consultant or HR Business Partner level role, or equivalent experience to be qualified for Senior Employee Relations/Labor Relations Consultant or Senior HR Business Partner. Experience with employee relations issues and/or investigations required. Case management system experience is preferred. Seniority level
