The practice of radiography involves performing radiographic procedures by radiologic technologists responsible for administering ionizing radiation to patients of all ages for diagnostic, therapeutic, or research purposes. A radiographer performs radiographic procedures and related techniques, producing images requested by and for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner. Core Competencies
Ability to collect pertinent data about the patient, procedure, equipment, and work environment. Ability to analyze the information obtained and develop an action plan for completing the procedure. Basic knowledge of protocols, procedures, and equipment. Perform radiographic exams safely and accurately with reliable information regarding equipment, materials, and processes. Adjust protocols and procedures based on safe and effective practices. Evaluate exams or procedures to meet quality assurance standards. Provide clear and precise documentation for continuity and quality of care. Promote a positive, collaborative practice atmosphere within the healthcare team. Participate in professional organizations and scholarly activities to advance the profession. Knowledge and Competency
Novice-level experience; competent in routine studies. Working knowledge of technical standards, scope of practice, policies, safety, and service standards. Knowledge of imaging equipment, software, instrumentation, and ancillary patient care equipment. Education, Certification & Experience
Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or must obtain within the first 90 days of hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification. Additional Details
