Overview
LVN - San Marcos Outpatient Med Cntr - Family Medicine-Regular Clinic - Part Time Position notes: This role operates under the supervision of an RN or provider and supports routine patient care in a family medicine outpatient setting. The role excludes administration of IV medications and venipuncture, following established policies, procedures, and standards; adheres to quality of service standards and universal precautions. Responsibilities
May perform nursing care functions such as vital signs, removal and/or application of dressings for assessment by a licensed provider. Cleaning or irrigating wounds after provider assessment and instructions, shaving and skin preparation, ear washes, NG insertion & lavage, urinary catheter insertion & irrigation. Reinforce standardized self-care procedures as directed by a licensed provider. Recognize and respond to acute emergency situations following established procedures. Orient patients to system policies and practices; provide instruction sheets based on provider direction and review them with the patient. Administer medications (excluding IV) as ordered by the provider; observe and document patient responses to medications and therapy. May perform tuberculin, coccidioidin, and histoplasmin skin tests if part of a tuberculosis control program; may perform immunizations based on written protocols. Prepare and transport items such as medical equipment and laboratory specimens; clean and disinfect instruments/equipment according to procedures; follow Universal Precautions and report procedural non-compliance as needed. Prepare treatment rooms for procedures, set up sterile trays, and assemble equipment as required; assist licensed providers with examinations and treatments by positioning or restraining patients as directed. Assist in minor surgical procedures and diagnostic exams by positioning and draping; hold clamps or retractors and pass instruments as directed by the physician; ensure patient safety during procedures. Initiate and/or complete diagnostic rest forms per provider order; relay prescriptions to pharmacies and relay information between physician, patient, and staff; chart in the patient’s medical record; perform lab tests as directed (urine dip-tests, acetone, hemoccult, pH, protein, PKU where applicable). May perform hearing and vision tests, glaucoma tests, and visual acuity assessments; collect and preserve specimens (urine, sputum, stool) using non-invasive and invasive techniques. Participate in Department Quality Assurance activities and other duties as required, including checking patient records for incomplete data and relaying messages. Ability to work effectively with the public. Demonstrated knowledge of sterile technique. Demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide culturally sensitive service to members, customers, providers, and vendors. Ability to give and follow verbal and written instructions. Vocational Nurse License (California) and Basic Life Support certification. Additional Requirements
Scheduled work hours per week will be 20-32. The position’s home clinic is San Marcos, but may float to other North County Primary Care locations as operations require. This is an 8-hour shift with varied start times between 7:00 AM–10:00 AM. Employment details
