Overview
The Biomedical Engineering Department is looking for a Biomedical Equipment Technician II to provide support in the maintenance and repair of life support equipment in Respiratory, Operating Room, and other areas at ZSFG. This position will be under the direction and supervision of the Biomedical Engineering Manager. This is the operational/practitioner level for the Biomedical Equipment Technicians job series. Under direction and minimal supervision, incumbent performs a variety of routine and complex tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, and repair of a diverse range of clinical equipment including life support equipment. Incumbent performs scheduled maintenance on clinical equipment using specialized test equipment, assists in the support of a systematic preventive maintenance program of biomedical instrumentation, and documents the introduction of new therapeutic and diagnostic equipment, corrective and preventive maintenance actions and special requests as required. Demonstrated ability to learn from others on the job. Possesses an intermediate level of expertise and is capable of assisting less experienced technicians.
Responsibilities
Provide support in installation, maintenance, and repair of a diverse range of clinical equipment including life support equipment, with routine and complex tasks.
Perform scheduled maintenance on clinical equipment using specialized test equipment and support the preventive maintenance program of biomedical instrumentation.
Document the introduction of new therapeutic and diagnostic equipment, corrective and preventive maintenance actions, and special requests as required.
Serve as a resource to UCSF Healthcare and Academic Research System employees in the proper operation and maintenance of clinical and/or laboratory equipment; notify user departments regarding status of repairs; assist in obtaining loaner or replacement equipment; ensure incoming equipment is inspected per policy.
Report patient safety issues to supervisor or manager and assist with corrective action; identify and recommend replacement of obsolete equipment or equipment with extensive repair history or safety issues; conduct equipment evaluations as required and participate in Device Incident Investigation with follow-up to management.
Demonstrate ability to learn on the job and collaborate with less experienced technicians; possess intermediate level expertise and ability to assist less experienced staff.
The Biomedical Engineering Department supplies asset management and maintenance and repair support for patient monitoring and diagnostic equipment at SFGH and related outpatient clinics; the department maintains the biomedical equipment management program, insuring facility compliance with Joint Commission and California Title 22 regulations.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position isis $57.24-$71.31(Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications
High School Diploma and/or equivalent experience/training
Work requires a background in electronics
A minimum of three consecutive years experience as a Biomedical Equipment Technician or a minimum of five years experience in electronic, mechanical or electromechanical repair or equivalent, preferably in a healthcare setting
Knowledge in electronic circuitry
Knowledge in electronics troubleshooting
Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams and illustrated parts drawing of biomedical instrumentation
Maintenance skills in electronics, mechanical or electromechanical device repair
Ability to read color codes on wiring and electronic components
A working knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology
Ability to comprehend and follow both written and oral communications
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, clinical and medical staff, and the general public
A working knowledge of e-mail, database management, spreadsheet, and word processor applications
Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays if necessary
Ability to function in a sterile environment if necessary
Ability to keep accurate records
The BMET II is the Principal or Operational/Practitioner level for the Biomedical Equipment Technicians job series
The BMET II must possess in depth repair, maintenance, and calibration skills of routine and complex diagnostic, therapeutic, and life support devices and systems
Overtime maybe required at times to assist in and/or to complete maintenance or project work
BMET II technicians are encouraged to pursue CBET Certification
Experience in Respiratory equipment and ventilators is needed
Preferred Qualifications
Associates Degree, military training or vocational training in electronics, biomedical equipment technology or a related field is highly preferred.
