Job Summary

Measures and generates radiation dose distributions and calculations under the direction of the radiation therapy physicist and radiation oncologist. Is a member of the radiation oncology team who has knowledge of the overall characteristics and clinical relevance of radiation oncology treatment machines and equipment and is cognizant of procedures commonly used in brachytherapy. Job Requirements

Education and Work Experience: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (some certifications will require Bachelor\’s): Required Master\'s Degree: Preferred Nine months\' clinical or classroom curriculum in medical dosimetry: Preferred Licenses/Certifications Registered radiation therapy technologist with on-the-job training in dosimetry under the supervision of a dosimetrist, medical physicist or radiation oncologist with an additional one year of practical, supervised experience in clinical medical dosimetry: Required Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD): Preferred Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Preferred Essential Functions Performs dosage calculation in the patient chart and verifies the mathematical accuracy of all calculations. Documents pertinent information in the patient record. Performs, or assists in, the application of specific methods of radiation measurement including ion chamber, thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLD), or film measurement as directed by the Medical Physicist. Provides technical and physics support to the Medical Physicist; which may be in radiation protection, qualitative machine calibrations, and quality assurance of the radiation oncology equipment. Takes on the role of educator in facilities that have radiation oncology residents, radiation therapy students or medical dosimetry students. Follows the dose prescription specified by the radiation therapist, plans a treatment technique by means of a computer and/or manual computations that delivers a prescribed dose to a defined tumor volume. Coordinates treatment simulation and tumor localization including computerized tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
