Through the holistic integration of its Pillars of Opportunity, Sasha Bruce is able to provide safe homes, life skills, and workforce development to meet the unique needs of homeless youth. For almost 50 years, Sasha Bruce has implemented innovative interventions aimed at ending youth homelessness in the DC region. Today, the programs in DC and Prince George’s County, MD, reach over 6,500 runaway, homeless, abused, and neglected youth, and their families.

Program Summary The Drop-In Center Case Manager collaborates with other Drop-In Center and Outreach staff to serve as the entry point into SBY residential programs and other housing opportunities within the DC continuum of youth service care. The Case Manager, in conjunction with program management, assists with the daily operation of a Youth Drop-In Center for homeless and unstably housed youth and provides them with an initial assessment in order to link them to appropriate services. The Case Manager maintains an active caseload, develops Harm Reduction and/or Individualized Case Plans, and monitors client progress towards their goals. The Case Manager also collaborates with other staff to provide life skills trainings and other socio-cultural activities in an effort to support their successful transition to self-sufficiency.

Duties And Responsibilities

The Drop-In Center Case Manager collaborates with other Drop-In Center and Outreach staff to serve as the entry point into SBY residential programs and other housing opportunities within the DC continuum of youth service care.

The Case Manager also collaborates with other staff to provide life skills trainings and other socio-cultural activities in an effort to support their successful transition to self-sufficiency.

Case Management Services including coordinated entry to DHS youth housing programs and referral services for available programs throughout the community

Mental Health services where appropriate (partnership pending)

Sexual Health education and testing

Family mediation and counseling, as appropriate

Life skills classes

A place to establish meaningful relationships with caring adults;

Positive social engagement activities;

Positive creative and expressive activities;

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in social work, Masters strongly preferred

Minimum of three to five years of experience working with youth

Strong knowledge of community resources

Understanding of harm reduction philosophy, trauma-informed provision of services and positive youth development strategies

Genuine interest in working with disenfranchised youth and young adults

Flexible schedule - position may require some weekend and evening hours

Bilingual skills (English and Spanish) are a plus

Experience working with LGBTQ youth is a plus

Strong communication and organization skills

Dynamic energy, able to multi-task and negotiate multiple demands on attention

Ability to translate positive youth development techniques into practice

Ability to deal with a multicultural and diverse setting

Basic understanding of computer and data base systems for managing case records

Ability to complete FBI Background check, Police Clearance, Child Protection Clearance, and Driving Clearance
