Job Summary and Qualifications

The Facility Chief Medical Officer (CMO) ensures high quality, patient-centered care by leading clinical and quality initiatives that support consistent clinical performance and practice standards across the hospital. The CMO provides senior-level leadership to infection control, risk management, safety, and medical staff credentialing, ensuring collaboration across stakeholders. The CMO analyzes quality performance, prioritizes improvement opportunities, and collaborates on issues involving physicians. The CMO contributes to overall hospital strategy and service line development to ensure quality management and optimum patient experience. Major Responsibilities

Physician Alignment Lead clinical performance expectations to ensure superior clinical outcomes and patient experience Work with Hospital CMO, CEOs, medical staff and Boards to improve hospital medical staff effectiveness Foster teamwork between medical staff and management; maintain mutually beneficial relationships with physicians Provide cost-effective clinical resource management guidance while maintaining clinical effectiveness Develop data-driven quality and cost improvement systems; measure outcomes Serve as liaison between physicians and facility/corporate clinical services Orient and develop management expertise for medical leadership; oversee medical education programs Lead educational sessions on clinical resource management and quality issues with staff Assemble regional physician advisory panels and liaison with leadership and physicians Explain and obtain buy-in for corporate, group, and facility clinical initiatives Collaborate with other CMOs Educate physicians on clinical technologies; collaborate with supply chain on formulary opportunities Medical Staff Affairs Develop and monitor disruptive or impaired physician policies and intervention programs Recommend revisions to policies and procedures relevant to medical staff Consult on physician credentialing, utilization, and quality profiling; participate in peer review as requested Business Development and Payer Relations Evaluate clinical relevance of new technologies and programs Support physician recruitment, program development, and hospital strategy Provide medical director services for credentialing, business development, and provider relations in contracting Provide medical input on contracting, pricing, and managed care issues; assist with appeals, discharge planning, case management, and utilization review Consult on utilization management and disease management under managed care contracts; ensure regulatory and contractual compliance Support case management and patient accounting in payer denial reduction and appeals Represent at corporate/meetings to support quality, risk management, patient safety and related activities Quality/Evidence-Based Practice/Patient Safety Promote positive patient interactions and unparalleled service Support quality initiatives to increase evidence-based practice; monitor outcomes and safety Act as spokesperson for evidence-based practice and patient safety Explain and promote quality initiatives to medical staff Additional Responsibilities Foster collaboration within patient care teams Lead facility management team and relationships with medical staff leaders Ensure clinical excellence is demonstrated by metrics Facilitate collaboration between hospital leadership and medical staff in policy direction Drive physician and patient satisfaction improvements Other Performs other duties as assigned; adheres to Code of Conduct and Mission and Value Statement Education, Experience and Licensure

Doctoral Degree in Medicine (MD) or Osteopathic Medicine required Master’s Degree in Business or related field preferred 10+ years clinical practice experience required Experience as a CMO (or equivalent) in a large, complex hospital or regional health system required Board certification as a Physician required Additional management education or coursework preferred Licensure: State Medical Board Licensure; board certification Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Behaviors
