Medical Lab Technician
— Microbiology Shift: Evening, 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM Responsibilities
As testing personnel, perform specimen processing, test performance and report waived and non-waived test results as authorized by the laboratory director and in accordance with the department’s standard operating procedures (SOPs). Read and interpret test results used by providers in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases; work independently to assure accurate results and records. Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, and maintain records of patient test results. Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples. Adhere to quality control policies, document QC activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance. Follow corrective action policies when test systems are not within established performance levels; identify and correct problems or notify a supervisor/clinical director as required. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from performance specifications. Qualifications
Education Associate’s Degree in Laboratory Sciences or Associate’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology; Other Certificate/Diploma in Clinical Laboratory Sciences Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) – ASCP-BOC preferred Experience 0-1 year of laboratory experience required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Basic understanding of laboratory equipment operation, maintenance, and analytic techniques Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and pay careful attention to detail Ability to adhere to written protocols and communicate with supervisors when issues are identified Team player with excellent interpersonal and professional communication with staff, physicians, hospital personnel, employees, and patients Other listed competencies relevant to the role Additional Job Details
