UNC Medical Center is hiring New Grad Nurses to join our Child Adolescent and Eating Disorders Psychiatry Unit. Seeking nursing graduates to start Winter 2026. In order to qualify for the UNC Medical Center New Graduate Residency program, candidates must currently be in their final semester of nursing school or recently graduated from nursing school within the past 12 months of the anticipated start date and have worked as an RN for less than 6 months. The New Graduate Residency is a yearlong program supporting transition from academia to practice for new graduate nurses. The program provides mentored clinical relationships to support development as a professional nurse. It is required to pass the NCLEX exam and be a licensed RN prior to the first day of employment. 5 Neurosciences is a 28-bed Child, Adolescent and Eating Disorders Inpatient Psychiatry Unit comprised of three focus areas: 14-bed Adolescent, 8-bed Child, and 6-bed Eating Disorders units. Safety, coping skills, healthy living, and positive leisure activities are central to care. This is a 36-hour-per-week position with 12-hour shifts, rotating shifts, and benefits offered. Summary:
Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. The Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care using the nursing process in a hospital setting, reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director. Responsibilities
Education - Identify and meet learning needs of self. Attend education programs based on identified learning needs. Use patient education materials relevant to the patient population. Assess readiness to learn of the patient/family/caregivers. Assess developmental level of the patient and factors affecting learning. Evaluation of Care - Identify expected patient outcomes. Seek guidance as needed in revision of the plan of care. Participate in discussions with the interdisciplinary team to evaluate patient care. Communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care. Implementation - Demonstrate competence in care of patients with complex problems across physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects. Perform bedside point-of-care testing as required. Use organizational and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in care delivery. Organize and prioritize care according to patient/family needs. Consult with appropriate resources in a timely fashion for complex issues and discharge planning. Leadership - With assistance, set goals for professional growth. Work toward goals within the identified time frame or renegotiate with supervisor. Promote intra-/interdepartmental collaboration and contribute to unit goals and performance improvement. Communicate effectively and support cost-conscious care. Provide feedback to co-workers. Be aware of relevant policies and regulatory guidelines and promote a safe hospital environment. Patient Assessment - Recognize data from complex situations to determine care priorities. Include physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs. Synthesize assessment data for communication to others. Assess and anticipate discharge needs and foster family relationships to advocate for the patient and family. Planning - Collaborate with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care. Leverage multidisciplinary resources. Communicate planning across the full range of interactions. Address cultural and ethnic considerations in planning. Demonstrate ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex needs. Research - Read journals for studies applicable to practice. Bring ideas and questions to the staff for assessment of applicability. Qualifications and Requirements
Education Requirements: Graduation from a school of professional nursing. If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment, and obtain a Bachelor's degree with a major in Nursing or a Master's degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date. Licensure/Certification Requirements: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina by the day of clinical care. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. Professional Experience Requirements: No prior experience required.
