Job Title: Dispatch Call Taker
Department: Communications / Dispatch Reports To: Deputy Communications Center Director
Hours: 8:00am to 8:00pm and 12:00pm to 12:00am
Position Summary :
As a Dispatch Call Taker at Bell Ambulance, you will be the first point of contact for individuals
requiring emergency or medical transportation. You will be responsible for answering
emergency and non-emergency calls, collecting accurate information, applying Emergency
Medical Dispatch (EMD) protocols, and supporting crews by providing timely and clear
information. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to
remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations.
Key Responsibilities :
● Answer Emergency Line Calls – Receive and prioritize 911 and emergency medical calls
in accordance with Bell Ambulance and EMD protocols. ● Answer Crew Line – Respond to internal crew communications and relay necessary
updates or information. ● Radio Communications - Respond to any over the air communications as necessary. ● EMD Call Taking – Utilize Emergency Medical Dispatch procedures to assess patient
conditions and provide pre-arrival instructions when applicable. ● Facility Call Taking – Receive and process transport requests from hospitals, nursing
homes, and other medical facilities for both emergent and non emergent responses ● Dispatch Logs – Accurately document all incoming call details and ensure timely
distribution of dispatch logs to the appropriate personnel. ● Work effectively with dispatchers, EMTs, paramedics, and supervisors to ensure
efficient communication and dispatching of ambulances.
Qualifications :
● Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification must be obtained within a specified
timeframe. ● Excellent verbal communication, listening, and customer service skills. ● Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. ● Familiarity with computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems and Google workspace.
● Strong attention to detail and ability to remain calm under pressure.
Work Environment:
● Shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be required. ● Must be able to sit for extended periods while using communication equipment. ● High-stress environment, particularly during emergency situations.

● Team player with a collaborative attitude. ● Reliable and punctual. ● Adaptable to changing priorities and emergency situations
