Job Summary The Perfusionist shall, under the general supervision and at the direction of the attending physician, cardiovascular-thoracic surgeon, member of the medical staff, and Chief Perfusionist, be responsible for the operation of the heart-lung machine, intra-aortic balloon, cell saver, Gem 6 Analyzer, and Hemotech ACT, Hepcon Heparin Management system, blood gas analyzer, coagulation management devices, ventricular assist devices, Intra-operative blook component separation devices, etc.

Confers with surgeons regarding the nature of the procedure to be performed and gather necessary information about the patient to be used inconjunctionwith theoperation of the heart-lung machine.
Operates heart-lung machine during the surgical procedure performing necessary functions to maintain patient's condition.
Monitors a variety of physiologic parameters during surgical procedures.
Responsible for maintaining familiarity with physiologic monitoring and recording other procedures so he/she can perform these as directed.
Maintains accurate records of each perfusion as a permanent copy of the medical record.
Follows laboratory's procedures for handling specimens, processing, test analyses, and reporting results; maintains quality control records for blood gas, hematocrit, and electrolyte analyzer on a daily basis all point of care testing in the department; documents all corrective actions associated with quality control testing; maintains records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested and reported to an external source.
Responsible for the administration of blood under the direction of the patient's attending physician.
Administers IV fluids as well as such drugs Vasopressor, Vasodilators, Anti-coagulants and other drugs ordered by the physician inconjunctionwith the operation of the heart-lungmachine.
Manages and assists with insertion of Intra-aortic balloon pumps.
Manages and assists with cardio-pulmonary support devices ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.
Manages and assists with insertion of ventricular assist devices (Abiomed) etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.
Minimum Requirements Education - Bachelor's degree in related field of study.
