Position Summary

Assists clinic clients in addressing health problems; executes physicians’ orders; diagnoses and treats human responses to actual or potential health problems through services such as case finding, health counseling, and provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being. Fulfills functions categorized as independent, interdependent and dependent.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing regime for all clinic patients/clients.
  • Executes physicians’ orders using sound judgment and administers medication as prescribed.
  • Conferences with physicians as necessary when interpretation or clarification of a prescribed medical regime is needed.
  • Records, reports and interprets nursing services and client responses.
  • Collaborates with appropriate members of the health team to facilitate the highest quality of services.
  • Participates in maintaining standards of nursing practice.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary meetings influencing or determining policies affecting nursing practice.
  • Triage education of walk-in patients and performs venipuncture as necessary.
  • Updates prenatal log book and follows up on abnormal labs and referrals as necessary.
  • Orders medications, vaccines and medical supplies as needed.
  • Implements specific responsibilities as delegated by the Center Director and Director of Nursing.
  • Maintains nursing competence through continuing professional education and other learning experiences.
  • Facilitates related services for health center patients and CHN staff with respect to confidentiality and privacy.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Currently registered to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State.
  • Current CPR certificate or plan to attend CPR training within six (6) months of employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrates competence as a Registered Nurse.
  • Ability to relate comfortably and professionally to clients/patients regarding ongoing health maintenance and education.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team to meet program objectives.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Shows commitment to continuing development of nursing knowledge.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literate.
