Overview : The Learning Center Student Tutor- Des Plaines Student Employee will provide individualized content and skill-development tutoring to students (tutees). Students in this role will provide as-needed tutoring services to tutees, and are required to attend a 4-6 hour tutor training session in the spring semester. A typical day would include tutoring students on a set subject or set of subjects, on a drop-in or by appointment basis as directed. Campus Location : Des Plaines Length of Employment : Fall 2025 & Spring 2026: October- May with opportunity to renew hours Can a student do homework in this position?
Sometimes Hours Needed : 4-8 hours per week during Fall semester Schedule Flexibility : Once accepted, a set schedule will be set up for the semester. There is flexibility in the schedule for taking exams, class preparation, emergencies, and illness.
Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities and Learning Outcomes : -Provide individualized content and skill-development tutoring to students (tutees)- (CD, CM, CT, EI, LD, PF, TC) - Refer students to proper resources/offices based individual need (CT, CM, LD) - Complete the required tutor training hours each semester, and on an as- needed basis (CD, CM,CT, EI, LD, PF, TW, TC) - Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information, material, and discussions shared during each tutoring session (LD, PF, TC) - Adhere to a set schedule throughout the semester (PF) - Maintain student tutoring records as required (PF, TC)

Candidate Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Other abilities): Qualified candidates will have the following competencies and skills: - Must be currently enrolled at Oakton College in at least one summer credit course and be registered for at least 6 credit hours during the Fall and Spring semesters. - Must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher and be in good standing at Oakton College; must have an "A" or "B" average in courses being tutored and provide instructor
referral/recommendation
as required - Able to stand and sit for extended periods of time. - Demonstrated reliability and responsibility. - Friendly, flexible, organized, courteous, and punctuality a must. - Exceptional communication and organizational skills with strong detail orientation preferred. - Proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office and Google technology (GSUITE), as well as, upcoming new technology preferred. - Demonstrated ability to work independently or as a team. - Speaking additional languages is helpful, but not required, to serve the student population. - Eligible to work in the United States .
