About the Role

The Company is seeking a Senior Counsel with a focus on commercial and product legal matters to join their dynamic team. This role is pivotal as the first legal team hire, and the successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting the Product/Tech, Operations, and Marketing teams. The ideal candidate will have a JD and bar admission, with 7-10 years' of overall legal experience, including a minimum of 4 years in-house at B2C technology companies. Experience in a two-sided marketplace or platform, particularly in the areas of trust and safety, content moderation, and platform liability, is strongly preferred. The role demands a professional who can navigate the complex regulatory landscape of two-sided platforms, with a focus on product and operations, and who is adept at providing legal support across multiple practice areas. Key responsibilities for the Senior Counsel include partnering with product teams on legal requirements for feature launches and user experience, maintaining and evolving platform policies, and advising on regulatory compliance across North America and the EU. The role also involves leading contract negotiations for various commercial and partnership agreements. The successful candidate will be expected to have a proven track record in crisis management, the ability to balance legal risk with business objectives, and experience in effective cross-functional collaboration. Preferred qualifications include early career law firm experience in technology or transactional practice, international expansion experience, and a background in high-growth startup environments.
