Job Summary:
Collects and handles blood specimens and maintains phlebotomy supplies for use. Performs other duties as assigned. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed.
Performance Expectations: Performance expectations will be covered in the orientation and preceptor phase of your orientation to your job.
Demonstrate the ability to document collection in the EMR system Demonstrate the ability to multitask and obtain specimens on each unit efficiently. Demonstrate the ability to perform as a teammate in a professional manner to enhance patient safety and experience. Demonstrate the ability to perform various methods of specimen collection (i.e. venipuncture, skin puncture) Demonstrate the ability to perform blood cultures per policy utilizing sterile technique Demonstrate the ability to correctly label specimens correctly and transport to lab in timely manner. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with others in an appropriate and timely manner. Adheres to and promotes established values of the organization, i.e. customer service, safety, infection control, and compliance standards. Demonstrate consistency in following FGH policy, procedures, and standards of care in performing all duties. Demonstrate participation in department meetings and education/training and meets the established deadlines for completion. Qualifications:
Education/Skills
High school graduate or G.E.D. required
Work Experience:
None required. Phlebotomy experience preferred
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
Phlebotomy Certification Additional Certification/Licensure - Obtained based on required timeframe below
