Position Summary

The Emergency Room (ER) Nurse is a key member of the healthcare team, delivering expert care to patients in a fast-paced emergency department. Responsibilities include assessing, triaging, and treating patients with a wide range of medical conditions, injuries, and emergencies. The role demands strong clinical skills, critical thinking, and the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.


Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct rapid patient assessments and triage based on acuity and severity.

  2. Perform initial screenings, gather medical history, and assess vital signs.

  3. Initiate and perform emergency procedures such as resuscitation, airway management, cardiac monitoring, and medication administration.

  4. Collaborate with physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to develop treatment plans.

  5. Advocate for patients’ needs, preferences, and rights; provide education and support to patients and families.

  6. Respond quickly to emergent situations including trauma activations, cardiac arrests, and medical emergencies.

  7. Coordinate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure timely and appropriate interventions.

  8. Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in electronic medical records (EMR).

  9. Administer medications, IV fluids, and blood products as prescribed, ensuring accuracy and adherence to hospital policies.

  10. Follow infection control protocols and safety standards to protect patients, staff, and visitors.

  11. Communicate effectively with the healthcare team to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.

  12. Stay current with evidence-based practices and participate in ongoing education and professional development.

  13. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and evaluation processes related to patient care.


Qualifications
  1. Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.

  2. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

  3. Emergency nursing certifications (e.g., Certified Emergency Nurse, ENPC) preferred.

  4. Current American Heart Association certifications in:

    • Basic Life Support (BLS)

    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

  5. Minimum of 1 year of experience in acute care nursing.

  6. Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.

  7. Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  9. Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.

  10. Commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered emergency care.

  11. Ability to coordinate, negotiate, and manage care for complex patients to achieve quality, cost-effective outcomes.

  12. Experience working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams across the care continuum.

  13. Participation in quality improvement and evaluation processes related to patient care management.


Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
  1. Two to five years of progressive experience in acute care or other settings within the continuum of care.

  2. Experience in utilization review or discharge planning preferred.

  3. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.


Licenses & Certifications
  1. Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.

  2. American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

  3. American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

  4. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).

  5. Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) – preferred.

  6. Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) – preferred.
