Description:

Under the direct supervision of the Head of School, the Art Teacher plans and provides engaging, developmentally appropriate art experiences for students across all grade levels. The teacher instructs and supervises students in a variety of artistic techniques, media, and creative projects, fostering imagination, self-expression, and critical thinking. The Art Teacher creates a positive, inspiring classroom environment that encourages exploration, collaboration, and appreciation for the visual arts. Responsibilities may include working with individuals or small groups, displaying student artwork, integrating art with other subjects, and performing other duties as assigned to support the schools mission.

  • Plan and implement instructional programs and services that align with the schools mission and address the strengths, interests, needs, and abilities of each student.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and inspiring art classroom environment.
  • Create a learning space that nurtures creativity, artistic talents, and the overall development of all students.
  • Prepare long-term and short-term plans for art courses across grade levels, including both foundational and elective courses.
  • Provide specialized instruction in a variety of artistic techniques, media, and styles, aligned with curriculum standards, to accelerate student learning.
  • Plan and utilize varied teaching methods, resources, and evaluation techniques to support each student in achieving artistic and learning objectives.
  • Prepare appropriate lesson plans and projects for assigned art courses to achieve learning outcomes.
  • Monitor student progress and design lessons aligned to individual student needs and abilities.
  • Evaluate student performance through observations, assignments, projects, portfolios, and assessments (both formal and informal).
  • Contribute to student educational plans and collaborative team processes.
  • Maintain complete and accurate student records.
  • Communicate student progress to students and parents/guardians, meeting as needed to support growth.
  • Oversee the appropriate use and care of art materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Collaborate with administration, colleagues, support staff, parents, and community members in the best interests of students.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, committees, and workgroups.
  • Improve skills and knowledge in current art education trends, evidence-based practices, technology, and interdisciplinary connections.
  • Oversee technology used in art instruction, including digital tools and maintenance of devices.
    Perform other duties as assigned.



Salary:

The salary for this 9 month position will be based on a salary scale. Actual salary placement will be in accordance with the procedures of Glenwood Academy.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the principles and pedagogy. Knowledge of state standards and specialized, research-based interventions.
  • Knowledge of the strengths and needs presented by students with language based learning differences.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when discussing students progress and concerns with staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form.
  • Ability to implement effective lesson plans to support the educational program.
  • Ability to work with diverse learners.
  • Possess basic technology knowledge to support student learning and clerical tasks.
  • Skilled in technology competency and software applications such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong human relations skills.
  • Ability to have positive and professional communication with staff, administrators, parents, and/or the community.

Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree in an applicable field.

Licenses and Certification:

Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Certificate commensurate to the position is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certificate
  • Special Education experience or certification
  • Three previous years of teaching experience

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the flexibility to move around the school and classroom.
