The Academy's first school opened in Delano in 2009, serving students from across the Central Valley in grades 6-12. In 2016, we moved to our new, state-of-the-art college prep campus in Delano, and in the Fall of 2017, added an elementary school in Delano and opened a second charter school in Lost Hills. In Delano, we serve over 1,800 students in grades TK-12, while in Lost Hills, we serve over 400 students in grades TK-12.

Job Description

Wonderful College Prep Academy is seeking a passionate and experienced Culinary Arts Teacher for our 9-12th grade students. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to inspiring students in the field of culinary arts, equipping them with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The teacher will develop and implement a comprehensive culinary arts curriculum that prepares students for potential careers in the culinary industry.

Essential Job Functions:

Curriculum Development and Instruction:

  • Develop and deliver engaging and rigorous culinary arts curriculum aligned with industry standards.
  •  Create lesson plans that provide hands-on learning experiences and foster a deep understanding of culinary techniques, nutrition, food safety, and kitchen management.
  • Incorporate a variety of instructional strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.

Classroom Management:

  • Maintain a safe and organized kitchen classroom environment.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure a positive and productive learning environment.
  • Supervise students in the proper use and care of culinary tools and equipment.

Student Assessment and Support:

  • Assess and evaluate students’ performance through various assessment methods, including practical exams, written tests, and projects.
  •  Provide constructive feedback and support to students to help them improve their culinary skills.
  •  Identify and support students with varying needs and abilities, ensuring all students can achieve success.

Professional Development and Collaboration:

  • Stay current with industry trends, advancements, and educational best practices in culinary arts.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administration, and community partners to enhance the culinary arts program.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to continually improve teaching practices and curriculum content.

Extracurricular Engagement:

  • Organize and oversee culinary-related extracurricular activities, such as cooking clubs, competitions, and catering events.
  • Foster relationships with local culinary businesses and organizations to provide students with real-world learning opportunities and internships.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts, Culinary Education, or a related field preferred.
  • Teaching certification is highly desired but not required.
  • Relevant collegiate coursework or significant job expertise in culinary arts.
  • Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, nutrition, food safety, and kitchen management.
  • Experience teaching or training in a culinary setting is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students with a passion for culinary arts.
  • Commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a charter school setting.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the Response to Intervention (RTI) model.
  • Familiarity with technology-based math intervention programs and tools.

Pay Range: $68,969.96 - $113,824.10. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills & experience.

  • Full-time staff benefits include medical coverage, dental, vision, and life insurance at no cost to the employee. We also offer an optional 403b, with company match, as a supplement to STRS retirement pension. In addition, employees have free access to the Wonderful Wellness Center and gym.
