Job Description Utilities Regulation Inspector - Electric About Us: The Iowa Utilities Commission (IUC) is a public agency dedicated to promoting transparency, accessibility, and accountability in utility regulation. What You'll Do: As a Utilities Regulation Inspector - Electric, you will:

Inspect physical facilities, records, construction projects, and operations of public and private electric utilities. Evaluate compliance with state rules, regulations, and safety standards during on-site inspections. Assist utilities in understanding and applying codes and standards while identifying unsafe installations or practices. Investigate accidents involving electric transmission and distribution facilities to determine causes and recommend corrective measures. Review and respond to safety or service complaints by conducting investigations, analyzing records, and interviewing stakeholders. Use specialized testing equipment (voltmeters, ammeters, frequency meters, ohm meters, etc.) to evaluate facility performance and safety. Prepare clear, accurate, and detailed technical reports documenting inspections, findings, and recommendations. Collaborate with colleagues and provide guidance, training, and support to ensure consistent regulatory oversight. Who We're Looking For:

Strong knowledge of electrical utility practices, operations, and safety codes. Familiarity with technical engineering principles related to electrical utilities. Skill in applying codes and standards to real-world installations and operations. The ability to travel throughout Iowa (and occasionally out of state) for inspections and investigations. A collaborative approach, with strong communication and relationship-building skills. Your Competencies:

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Two years of experience in the inspection, supervision, construction and/or operation and maintenance of private or public utility installations and facilities, including natural gas pipeline and/or electric transmission and distribution facilities; OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year (thirty semester hours or its equivalent) of post high school education in engineering technology for one year of the required work experience to a maximum of two years.
