JOB SUMMARY

:

The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the pharmacy department, including medication dispensing, staff management, drug inventory control, clinical pharmacy services, budget management, and ensuring compliance with regulations, while collaborating closely with medical staff and other departments to optimize patient care and medication safety. The Director of Pharmacy adheres to the Mission and Values of Burke Rehabilitation Hospital.

WORK PERFORMED

:

Develops and maintains pharmacy services in accordance with State and Federal regulations, accepted standards, professional practices and hospital policies. Reviews and revises Policy and Procedure manual annually. Manages daily operations of the pharmacy, including staff scheduling, workflow optimization, and ensuring adequate drug supply. Oversees medication preparation and dispensing processes, including unit-dose systems. Monitors drug inventory levels and ordering medications. Leads clinical pharmacy initiatives, such as drug utilization reviews, therapeutic drug monitoring, and medication reconciliation. Collaborates with healthcare providers on medication selection and dosage adjustments. Serves as Secretary of the Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee of the Medical Board. Hiring, training, and supervising pharmacy staff including pharmacists, technicians, and clerks. Evaluates staff performance (completes annual performance evaluations on all employes in a timely manner) and provides ongoing professional development opportunities. Develops and manages the pharmacy budget, including drug costs and operational expenses. Analyzes drug utilization data to identify cost-saving opportunities. Implements quality improvement programs to minimize medication errors and improve patient safety. Monitors and reports adverse drug reactions. Oversees the pharmacy's quality control procedures. Maintains open communication with medical staff, nursing staff, and other clinical departments Presents pharmacy services and updates to hospital leadership. Participates in interdisciplinary teams to address patient care issues. Practices Standard Precautions. Follows regulations, policies and guidelines on the prevention of infections; does not eat or drink in patient care areas. Maintains confidentiality of information; abides by HIPAA regulations. Maintains a professional image and follows Hospital's policy on uniforms; consistently wears hospital ID. Demonstrates reliable, on-time attendance, which is an essential function of all jobs at Burke. Completes mandatory annual learning (Learning Harbor) within deadline. Personally adheres to Burke C.A.R.E.S. philosophy by demonstrating compassion, accountability, respect and exceeding expectations through service excellence. Performs other job related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :

Graduate pharmacist, licensed to practice in the State of New York by examination or reciprocation from another state.

Must have five years' experience in similar practice, with at least three years of experience in a supervisory capacity.

Advanced degree preferred.

Experience working in EPIC EMR.

Knowledge of accounting and computer skills.
