What are we looking for in a Director of Contracting?

The Director of Contracting is an essential leadership role to ensure the overall revenue cycle strategy for the organization. This role reports to the Chief Financial Officer and works in conjunction with the Executive Leadership team to develop the strategy and oversight of all aspects of contract development, negotiation, execution, and management. This role plays a pivotal part in advancing the organization's mission by ensuring that contractual partnerships and payer agreements align with the organization's core values, regulatory requirements, and strategic objectives. The Director of Contracting serves as a bridge between internal teams, external partners, and governing bodies to facilitate sustainable, ethical, and mission-centric business arrangements.

The Director of Contracts is responsible for negotiating, creating, executing, administrating, and managing healthcare and other payor contracts. The Director of Contracts and their team will collaborate with staff and teams from all departments (i.e., Business Operations, Finance, Human Resources, Provider Relations, etc.) to ensure positive working relationships and completion of regulatory items such as required reporting.

Some travel may be required for partner meetings, conferences, or site visits. The position requires flexibility to respond to urgent contracting matters and deadlines. The Director of Contracting must be comfortable managing multiple priorities and working collaboratively across teams.

Duties may include: Lead the formulation, negotiation, and finalization of contracts with care providers, payers, government agencies, technology vendors, suppliers, and community partners. Prepare letters of agreement and single case agreements at the direction of senior leadership. Draft and summarize content for correspondence with payors regarding clarification with contract issues. Continuously evaluate current and potential partnerships for alignment with the organization's mission, growth strategies, and ethical standards. Develop standardized contract templates and processes to support organizational efficiency and consistency. Ensure selection of appropriate contract template agreement, amendment, BAA and NDA are utilized with external parties. Establish and oversee systems for monitoring contract performance, compliance with regulatory requirements, and fulfillment of terms and conditions. Ensure complex payor information and reports are reviewed and summarized to provide timely contracting recommendations to key leaders based on operational needs. Monitor essential contract elements such as contract terms, termination dates, and rates to ensure contract terms are being met and proper and timely notification is achieved in accordance with project plan or strategy. Support third-party contract negotiations to ensure appropriate processes and documentation. Review, redline, version control and draft contracts utilizing approved standardized contract templates or external documents. Ensure all contracts adhere to federal, state, and local laws, including healthcare-specific regulations such as HIPAA, Medicare/Medicaid compliance, and nonprofit governance requirements. Research contract and regulations to assist with system configuration, claim payment and payor credentialing. Coordinate audits and respond to regulatory inquiries related to contracting activities and oversight of contract ongoing reporting requirements including Statement of Functional Expenses (SEFA). Identify, assess, and address risks associated with contracts, including indemnification, liability, data privacy, and conflict of interest. Work with legal counsel, when necessary, with approval of leadership, to review contracts, resolve disputes, and ensure the organization's interests are protected. Develop risk management strategies and promote a culture of compliance and transparency. Serve as a subject matter expert to assist with the review and development of contractual relationships with vendors, partners, and payers on contracting matters. Foster positive, collaborative relationships to enhance service delivery, innovation, and healthcare outcomes. Coordinate payor and provider onboarding, offboarding and credentialing to operationalize contracts. Collaborate with finance and operations teams to analyze contract terms for fiscal impact, cost savings, and operational efficiency. Negotiate favorable pricing, payment terms, and performance incentives without compromising the organization's mission or quality standards. Track and report key metrics on contract performance to senior leadership and the Board of Directors. Supervise and mentor a team of contracting professionals, providing guidance, training, and professional development opportunities. Promote cross-departmental collaboration to support organization-wide goals and share best practices. Develop and maintain supportive relationships with key leaders and departments that support the organization to quickly resolve contract related issues. Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on streamlining contracting processes, increasing transparency, and enhancing staff capabilities. Contribute to organizational strategy by identifying emerging trends in healthcare contracting, payment models, and partnership opportunities. Advocate for innovative contracting approaches that support access to care, health equity, and community impact. Participate in national and regional forums, committees, and working groups to represent the organization's interests and bring back industry insights. Ability to align contracting strategies with organizational goals and adapt to changing healthcare landscapes. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences. Resourceful and creative in addressing contracting challenges and regulatory compliance issues. Skilled at building effective partnerships internally and externally. Meticulous in contract review, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance. Financial analysis of payor contracts to ensure the payment covers the cost of services. Maintains integrity and confidentiality in all contracting matters. Qualifications

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in business administration, healthcare administration, law, public health, or a related field. Master's or Juris Doctorate (JD) preferred A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in healthcare contracting with at least three years in a leadership or management role.
