Chief Purpose of this position:
The Division of GI & Hepatology in partnershipwith the Stravitz-Sanyal Liver Institute (SSLI) is seeking a PhysicianScientist whose research focuses on understanding the liver's naturalcapacity to repair itself and developing therapies to enhance this process fortreating diseases that would benefit from this approach, man of which wouldimpact end-stage liver disease, but also metabolic and genetic disorders that involveimpaired liver function. This candidate will establish research effortsaimed at regenerative strategies to advance translational research andtherapeutics development.
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching Oversee training of staff and learners in gene therapy Research
Design and execute in vitro and in vivo experiments for gene therapy in liver regeneration and liver metabolism, optimizing gene constructs and delivery systems Utilize genome editing techniques like CRISPR/Cas9 and investigate the roles of liver cells and signaling pathways Conduct molecular analyses including sequencing and '-omics' profiling Analyze and interpret experimental data using scientific and statistical methods, including next-generation sequencing analysis Collaborate on integrating computational insights into research Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have an MD or PhD degree in Physiology, Developmental Biology, Molecular Biology or related field, with postgraduate or postdoctoral training and research experience The candidate must have international recognition as a leader in the field, and published in peer-reviewed journals and/or have patent applications 15 + years of extensive experience on cell metabolism and stem cell biology as it relates to liver health, liver biology, and liver disease Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
