Role Summary We are seeking a
Senior PostgreSQL DBA
to lead critical database operations and a major upgrade from Postgres 13 to 16 across
AWS EC2, RDS, and Aurora environments . This role is central to ensuring stability, scalability, and compliance (PCI/SOX) within a high-volume, transaction-heavy enterprise application environment.
The ideal candidate is a
career DBA
with deep hands-on PostgreSQL expertise, particularly in production environments, who thrives in complex systems and works seamlessly across teams. Beyond core DBA functions, you'll collaborate closely with DevOps, developers, system administrators, and IT operations to maintain end-to-end platform reliability. On-call responsibilities will include responding to production alerts, which may occasionally extend beyond database-specific issues.

Key Responsibilities
Lead and execute PostgreSQL upgrades (13 ? 16) on AWS EC2, RDS, and Aurora with minimal downtime. Proactively monitor database health and performance, including tuning, indexing, and query optimization. Design, implement, and manage partitioning strategies for high-transaction systems. Develop and maintain disaster recovery (DR) solutions across AWS and Azure environments. Ensure PCI and SOX compliance through rigorous documentation and operational controls. Partner with development teams on schema design, performance optimization, and best practices. Create and maintain database objects (tables, indexes, views, triggers, stored procedures). Collaborate across DevOps, QA, and infrastructure teams to support enterprise-wide stability. Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation, providing critical production support. Required Experience / Skills
7-10+ years of dedicated DBA experience (must be a career DBA, not a recent transition). Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL upgrades (13-16) in
Aurora and RDS production environments . Strong SQL expertise, with proven ability to optimize complex queries. Experience with performance tuning, partitioning, automation, and scripting. Background in enterprise systems supporting
high-availability transaction processing . Familiarity with AWS (Aurora, RDS, EC2) and Azure (SQL Server). Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with ownership mindset. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience. Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting Java-based enterprise applications. Background in financial services or payment/card processing environments. Knowledge of other RDBMS platforms (Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL). Familiarity with AWS CloudWatch monitoring and performance tuning. Strong documentation skills for compliance-driven environments. What We're Looking For
