Responsibilities

  • The Phlebotomist draws quality blood samples from patients and prepares those specimens for lab testing while following established practices and procedures.
  • Maintains direct contact with patients, creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence, explains procedures to patients, and draws blood specimens in a skillful, safe and accurate manner.
  • Demonstrates leadership behaviors while focusing on process excellence and sensitivity to confidentiality and accuracy of patient information.
  • Under the direction of the area supervisor, performs daily activities accurately and on time; maintains a safe and professional environment.
  • Performs forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing duties following established practices and procedures.
  • Verifies patient demographic information/initials and patient signature post-venipuncture to ensure tubes are labeled correctly and in the presence of the patient.
  • Maintains required records and documentation, and promotes a positive image to patients, clients, employees and the public.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
  • Three years phlebotomy experience required, including pediatric, geriatric and capillary collections.
  • Minimum 2 years in a Patient Service Center environment preferred.
  • Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment; able to work independently with minimal on-site supervision.
  • Excellent phlebotomy skills (pediatric and geriatric).
  • Flexible availability based on staffing needs (weekends, holidays, on-call, overtime).
  • Adherence to Policies & Procedures including dress code, Employee Health & Safety, and Everyday Excellence Guiding Principles.
  • Decision-making based on established procedures with good judgment.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and clean driving record if applicable.
  • Willingness to travel and work across multiple locations with short notice.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a high-volume setting and strong customer focus.
  • Strong communication with peers, supervisors and patients and openness to change.
  • Training locations may vary based on trainer availability.
  • Customer service experience in retail or service environment preferred.
  • Keyboard/data entry experience.
  • Shift/Time Zone: Day/Eastern Mon-Fri 8a-12p.
