Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council is a non-profit organization formed by the Native American Tribes of Wisconsin. We serve all WI tribes by providing administration of grant-funded programs either directly or with sub grants. Programs serve a range of functions from Children to Elders. Our Mission is: To Enhance the quality of life for all Native People.

Position Summary

The Administrative Assistant duties for this position include data entry, answering phones, assisting counselors and consumers, and maintaining paper and electronic files for the Vocational Rehabilitation for Native Americans program. This is a full-time position in a busy office. Regularly scheduled attendance and dependability are essential job functions in this position.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the VRNA Program Director, organize, maintain, and control a wide variety of paper and electronic confidential files.
  • Screen and route visitors, telephone calls and mail to the appropriate person.
  • Provide general office services such as photocopy, fax, and drafting various forms of correspondence and communications.
  • Provide hospitality for consumers/visitors during arrival and meetings.
  • Assist staff with outreach and other community events.
  • Assist staff with vendor contacts, information gathering, setting of appointments.
  • Maintain office supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure communications and interactions are delivered in a culturally competent manner.
  • Ability to travel to various communities and Tribal sites occasionally.

Required Qualifications

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to learn new data system for timely and accurate data entry.
  • Must take initiative regularly, work independently and accurately.
  • Ability to organize and multi-task.
  • Must maintain the highest levels of confidentiality.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Perform all other duties and projects assigned.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and/or reliable transportation with adequate insurance and ability to travel.

Position Details

This is a full-time hourly position located in our Bad River office, Ashland, WI. This is not a remote position. Occasional travel is required. The salary for this position is $18.00-$19.00 per hour, dependent upon experience, with a full benefits package. There will be occasional travel to attend off-site staff meetings or training sessions. This position requires bending and lifting 15-20 pounds.

Educational and Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent; an associate degree in administrative assistance preferred.
  • Previous administrative experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Native American Tribal organizations and/or not-for-profit agencies desirable.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, professional demeanor, problem-solving, time management, and ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of people and follow routine instructions; basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
