$33.45/hr - $46.79/hr

FWST II: $37.90 - $42.11/hour

Anticipated 2026 Pay: FWST I: $35.34 - $39.27/hour

FWST II: $39.25 - $43.61/hour

FWST III: $43.61– $48.46/hour

Monday–Friday, five 8-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts

Definition:

FWST I: Perform minor and major diagnosis and repairs to automobiles; trucks; and construction equipment; Trash and Recycle trucks and vehicles specific to municipal operations including work on gasoline, diesel, small engines, electrical, aerial, and hydraulic equipment.

FWST II: Perform minor and major diagnosis and repairs to Trash and Recycle trucks, CNG equipment, automobiles; trucks; and construction equipment; and vehicles specific to municipal operations including work on gasoline, diesel, small engines, electrical, aerial, and hydraulic equipment. This level has received and must maintain designation as a Master ASE Certified Technician in either light duty or heavy duty truck. This level would be promoted from the Equipment Technician II position.

FWST III: Perform minor and major diagnosis and repairs to automobiles; trucks; and construction equipment; and vehicles specific to municipal operations including work on gasoline, diesel, small engines, electrical, aerial, and hydraulic equipment. This level has received and must maintain designation of two Master ASE Certifications in light duty and heavy duty trucks. Must have a level I, II and III CNG certification or the ability to get in the first year of hire. Additionally this position must show the ability to attain some EVT certifications within one year. This level is promoted from the Master ASE Equipment Technician I position.

Principal Duties: FOR FULL ANNOUNCEMENT VISIT LONGMONTCOLORADO.GOV/JOBS

Qualifications:

FWST I: 1 years’ experience in heavy trucks and equipment, welding and fabrication, electronics for truck body, chassis, electronic engines and transmissions. 1 years’ experience in Trash/Refuse Trucks preferred. 1 years’ experience in Fleet maintenance, including running and keeping track of a preventative maintenance program including repairs.

Special Qualifications: Possession of a valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License with Class “A” certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire, Colorado state license necessary to conduct diesel and vehicle emission control tests, and a CFC Certificate or ability to obtain within established time frame. ASE mechanic certifications in heavy truck T2 – T8 or light duty A1-A8, within 2 1/2 years of hire date, and continuing education and training in specialized areas such as computer controls, electronics, hydraulics, etc. Getting your certifications promotes you to the next level. Level I and Level II CNG repairs and inspections certifications. Must have a level I, II and III CNG certification or the ability to get in the first year of hire. Completion of HAZMAT and in-house safety training as required.

FWST II: 1 years’ experience in Fleet maintenance, including running and keeping track of a preventative maintenance program including repairs. Special Qualifications: Possession of a valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License with Class “A” certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. Colorado state license necessary to conduct diesel and vehicle emission control tests, and a CFC Certificate, or ability to obtain within established time frame. Completion of all requirements in order to be certified as an ASE Master Mechanic in heavy truck T2 – T8 or light duty A1-A8. Work toward your second ASE Master to move up to the next level. Must have a level I, II and III CNG certification or the ability to get in the first year of hire. Level I and Level II CNG repairs and inspections certifications. Continuing education and training in specialized areas such as computer controls, electronics, hydraulics, etc. Completion of HAZMAT and in-house safety training as required.

FWST III: 3 year’s experience in heavy trucks and equipment, welding and fabrication, electronics for truck body, chassis, electronic engines and transmissions. 2 years’ experience in Trash/Refuse Trucks preferred.1 year’s experience in Fleet maintenance, including running and keeping a preventative maintenance program including and repairs.

Special Qualifications: Possession of a valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License with Class “A” certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. Colorado state license necessary to conduct diesel and vehicle emission control tests, and a CFC Certificate or ability to obtain within the established schedule. Possession of two ASE Master Certifications in light duty A1-A8 and heavy truck T2-T8 and the ability to attain some EVT certifications within one year. Continuing education and training in specialized areas such as computer controls, electronics, hydraulics, etc. Completion of HAZMAT and in-house safety training as required.

Selection:
