Position: Environmental Specialist
Location: Indianapolis, IN
Responsibilities
- General duties include preparation of environmental documentation under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requirements, conducting wetland and waterway delineations, preparation of “Waters” reports, preparation of waterway permits, and assisting in the preparation of related documents.
- Additional duties may include preparation of wetland and/or stream mitigation plans, conducting mitigation site monitoring, conducting Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, general environmental consulting, proposal support for development of new business and other duties as assigned.
- Technical Duties: Perform field data collection for environmental investigations and natural resource surveys; collect and compile environmental data from soil, water, and other materials for analysis; collect and compile GIS data; prepare maps depicting environmental data and project-specific maps; analyze information to identify impacts and mitigation measures; develop plans, technical reports and/or permit applications; coordinate with applicable government agencies; maintain proficiency with environmental regulations applicable to transportation and civil works projects; assist in public participation and outreach for projects, including notices and presentations.
Client Coordination
- Maintain positive relationships with clients and assist in resolving project questions regarding scope, environmental procedures, and schedule; assist in identifying opportunities with existing and potential clients; assist in development and writing of proposals; provide support for business development.
Quality Assurance
- Review and understand Company and Department Quality Assurance and Quality Control guidelines; review interim draft and final reports, maps, plans and computations for accuracy; assist in reviewing work performed by other departments or sub-consultants; respond to regulatory agency comments when needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or related field
- 2–4 years of relevant work experience in consulting or a regulatory environment in the environmental science field
- Certified in FHWA/INDOT NEPA
- Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment
- Ability to work in variable conditions, including uneven ground and remote sites
- Strong team player with effective communication skills
- Proficient in MS Office; experience with ARC GIS preferred
