Overview

Westside Union School District – Custodian I (Day or Night Shift). CLASSIFIED SERVICE JOB SPECIFICATION JOB CLASS: CUSTODIAL LEVEL: I. POSITION TITLE: CUSTODIAN - DAY OR NIGHT SHIFT. POSITION DEFINITION: Under general supervision, to perform custodial services required to maintain assigned building and adjacent ground areas in a clean, orderly, and secure manner; and to do related work as required.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, wax and seal floors
• Vacuum rugs and carpets
• Dust, wash, and polish furniture and woodwork
• Empty and clean waste receptacles
• Wash windows and walls
• Clean restrooms
• Sweep sidewalks and pick up papers
• Clean drinking fountains and polish metal work
• Fill paper and soap dispensers
• Replace light bulbs; replenish supplies; turn out lights and lock doors and windows
• Guard assigned areas to prevent vandalism
• Assist in moving, arranging, and setting up furniture and equipment for special events and meetings including civic center assignments
• Make minor non-technical repairs

Education and Experience / Knowledge and Abilities

• Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to completion of high school and one year experience in custodial work is desirable
• Knowledge of the methods, material, and equipment used in cleaning various types of building surfaces and items of furniture
• Ability to maintain schedules providing for regular cleaning of all facilities assigned
• Ability to carry out oral and written instructions
• Ability to work cooperatively with others
• Ability to work with and around children
• Ability to relate well to parents and other adults

Physical Abilities

• Visual capability to read handwritten or typed documents, and the display screen of various office equipment and machines
• Able to conduct verbal conversation in English and other designated languages
• Able to hear normal range verbal conversation
• Able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, walk
• Able to stand in one place for sustained periods
• Able to sit for sustained periods of time
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally
• Able to push and pull objects weighing up to 300 pounds
• Able to sustain strenuous manual labor for 8 hours
• Able to exhibit full range of motion for shoulder, elbow, back, hip, knee movements
• Able to work in a wide range of temperatures and at various elevated heights
• Able to work with chemical agents in a safe and effective manner without allergic reaction
• Able to operate manual and power hand tools and material handling equipment safely

Salary and Evaluation

Salary Schedule: Classified Monthly. Evaluated by: Custodial Supervisor. Evaluation Reviewed by: Assistant Superintendent of Business Services or designee.
