Overview
Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI) is looking to fill a Custodian Lead position. This position will work Monday to Friday, 6:00am to 2:30pm and every 16th weekend. In addition, this position may need to work weekends, holidays, early mornings or early evenings, and overtime based on facility needs.
WMHI is a part of the Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS) and is a psychiatric hospital providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults.

Responsibilities
- As a Custodian Lead, you will be the team leader and perform various routine and non-routine custodial/housekeeping duties requiring moderate physical strength. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting on-the-job training
- Requisitioning and distributing supplies and materials
- Relaying instructions from the Buildings/Grounds Supervisor
- Determining the need for special project work to be performed
- Performing basic mechanical maintenance on cleaning equipment while following all safety procedures
Salary Information
The starting pay is $17.64 per hour, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.
Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 03/09.
Job Details
All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
All appointees will be required to complete a pre-employment health assessment including a TB screen prior to their start date which will be administered by WMHI or medical personnel approved by the facility.
This position has physical requirements which may include but are not limited to ability to exert up to 100 lbs. of force and ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Applicants may be required to pass a physical evaluation to assess these requirements.
DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have both of the following:
- Ability to work scheduled hours as needed which may include weekends, holidays, early mornings or early evenings, and overtime based as needed.
- Experience with custodial or housekeeping work.
Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
- Experience leading or overseeing the work of others (e.g., training/instructing, assigning work, reviewing work, etc.).
- Experience operating equipment necessary to perform stripping, sealing and refinishing floors.
- Experience using basic hand tools to perform custodial maintenance (e.g., changing vacuum cleaner belts, brushes, replacing light bulbs, etc.).
