Overview
Welding Engineer required for TIG repair of parts and components made from superalloys. Aerospace or defense experience is a plus. This position is onsite in Milford, NH.
Responsibilities
- Review and prepare welding and process instructions, standards, and specifications for complex castings using techniques requiring extensive dexterity and close visual attention.
- Manage complex projects and programs by owning key manufacturing improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Quality to establish weld best practices and ensure adherence to ISO and AS9100 standards. Provide direction and certify/recertify Repair Welders as required.
- Provide expertise to troubleshoot and resolve interruptions and perform failure analysis. Welds may be subjected to X-Ray, FPI and other tests to detect internal weld defects.
- Repair defects in castings made from materials that are difficult to weld (e.g., cobalt, stainless steel, all nickel-based alloys).
- Identify and install key manufacturing processes or enhancements; explore new manufacturing technologies to improve cost effectiveness, modernization, ergonomics, and quality.
- Provide consultation, direction, and mentoring to less experienced manufacturing engineering staff or contractors.
- As the Welding Engineer SME, identify and nurture talent within the manufacturing team; mentor operators and junior engineers; foster a culture of continuous learning; bridge strategic and tactical engineering groups.
- Lead or participate in cross-functional projects requiring interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Identify and implement improvements in corporate business processes and work instructions.
- Analyze welding conditions and assist with in-service inspections and evaluations.
- Perform actions defined by customers to qualify as a production source, interface with customer technical personnel to optimize producibility and cost-effectiveness.
- Investigate and initiate corrective actions on manufacturing problems related to production and inspection/testing of weld repair products.
- Establish equipment specifications, improve manufacturing techniques, and introduce new process equipment to welding and NDT processes.
- Review and evaluate engineering changes and coordinate with production planning and engineering personnel.
- Recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and procedures.
- Deliver commitments in a timely and efficient manner.
Additional Responsibilities
- May train and develop less experienced technical personnel.
- Observe company code of conduct, safety and quality principles.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor\'s degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, or Metallurgical Engineering
- 4+ years in engineering/manufacturing environment preferred
- Aerospace or defense experience is a plus
- 5-10 years of welding engineering experience
- Previous experience with TIG (tungsten inert gas) repair welding of parts and components with superalloy materials (Ni, Co, Inconel)
- Knowledge of practical welding science and technology, including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to welding and fabrication
- Excellent mechanical and robotic aptitude
- Familiarity with engineering blueprints and schematics
- Ability to handle physical workload
- Sense of urgency with the ability to complete work efficiently in a high-paced environment
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Computer literacy, including MS Office, technical modeling, and statistical tools
Compensation
Base pay range: $90,000/yr – $120,000/yr. Compensation depends on experience; additional profit-sharing bonus of 9% may apply.
