Overview
Job Title: Youth Sports Development Coach
Position Type: School Year (Part-Time)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, After School Hours (Weekends as needed)
Work Location: Whittier Area and Neighboring Districts
Reports To: Athletic Coordinator
Classification: Part-Time / Non-Exempt
Hours: Up to 12 hours/week; potential additional opportunities by assisting with club events and site support/coverage (totaling up to 25 hours/week).
Salary: $18.25 per hour
Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Sports Coach to lead youth sports programs for elementary and middle school students. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering engaging coaching sessions, while creating a positive and safe environment for students to develop their athletic skills. This is a part-time, school-year position that involves working directly with children to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Key Responsibilities
- Model and promote positive sportsmanship at all times, reinforcing respectful and appropriate behavior on and off the field.
- Plan and lead structured, developmentally appropriate practice sessions for up to 20 student-athletes.
- Organize and facilitate daily practices, ensuring all athletes are engaged and learning in a safe environment.
- Follow all guidelines and procedures as directed by the Athletic Coordinators.
- Actively participate in site-based activities and contribute to the positive culture of the program.
- Attend and fully engage in all required staff training, workshops, and development sessions.
- Collaborate with other coaches and staff to coordinate and support athletic program.
- Maintain constant supervision of all youth participants, prioritizing safety and well-being at all times.
- Serve as a positive role model, offering support and guidance to athletes as they navigate challenges and resolve conflicts.
- Oversee and assist with game-day set-up and preparation for home games, including equipment and field/court readiness.
- Supervise athletes during all game-day activities, ensuring order, safety, and preparedness.
- Coach games with an emphasis on teamwork, effort, and growth, while adhering to league rules and sportsmanship standards.
Qualifications
- Previous experience working with children in educational or childcare settings.
- Strong background and knowledge in sports coaching (preferred).
- Ability to communicate effectively with children of varying ages and skill levels.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to establish positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
- CPR & First Aid Certification (required).
- Successful completion of background checks, drug testing, and TB testing (required prior to hire).
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus but not required.
- Training in Mandated Reporting and Sexual Harassment will be provided.
Youth Development & Program Leader Responsibilities (extra hours opportunity)
- Support programs at assigned sites, assisting students with homework, and fostering positive relationships.
- Promote positive behavior through encouragement and reinforcement.
- Plan and implement youth programs focusing on academic enrichment, healthy lifestyles, and character development.
- Work with the Site Coordinator to create lesson plans, program schedules, and special events.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all members, resolving conflicts and providing guidance as needed.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and engaging environment for students.
- Contribute to club-wide events and activities when required.
- Participate in staff meetings and mandatory training sessions.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
This role may require standing, walking, sitting, lifting up to 20 pounds, and performing other physical tasks to support activities. Specific vision abilities may include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. The work environment will involve both indoor and outdoor settings.
