Veterinary Assistant – Heart of Chelsea, Park Slope, New York. Join the Heart of Chelsea Veterinary Group, part of the Suveto network, for a full-time Veterinary Assistant role in Park Slope. Responsibilities

• Prepare exam rooms and assist in appointments with doctors.
• Take client history, perform physical assessments, and record observations in the medical record.
• Educate clients on preventative healthcare and provide follow-up as needed.
• Communicate patient or client concerns to appropriate personnel.
• Perform venipuncture to collect blood samples, conduct in-house laboratory tests, and prepare forms for outside labs; relay results to owners as directed by the veterinarian.
• Provide and monitor nursing care for patients admitted to hospital, including medications (all routes) and monitoring.
• Admit and discharge patients following all protocols and educate clients on admit/discharge procedures.
• Clean and restock exam rooms, treatment areas, hospital wards, and other areas as requested.
• Use practice software for dispensing medications, patient foods, printing treatment sheets, discharge instructions, labels, and documenting communications with clients and doctors.
• Ensure understanding and enforcement of OSHA regulations and hospital safety standards.
• Perform client callbacks and updates as requested.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a veterinary hospital or similar setting preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of basic animal care and medical terminology.
• Ability to handle and restrain animals safely and effectively.
• Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
• Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to learn and take direction from veterinarians and senior staff.
• Compassionate nature and genuine love for animals.
