JOB SUMMARY:

The General Manager (GM) of Electrical is responsible for overseeing and optimizing performance within the electrical Construction, Emergency Power, and Service Departments. This role involves managing job progress, labor allocation, financial planning, and operational efficiency while ensuring compliance with company policies, industry standards, and federal/state regulations.

The GM plays a key role in developing long-term strategies to enhance profitability, increase market share, and improve customer retention. They will lead cross-functional teams, support employee development, and ensure seamless coordination between project management, field operations, and executive leadership.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Executive Leadership & Strategic Planning

  • Collaborate with the Chief Sales Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and President to develop and implement sales, financial, and strategic growth plans for electrical operations.
  • Become trained and proficient in SalesForce, Sampro, DB analytics, and MJob.
  • Provide Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and reports for the construction, emergency power, and service divisions.Including, but not limited to Project Management reporting and tracking and profitability reporting on projects, service accounts and service field technicians.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual budgeting processes and meetings, ensuring alignment with company Profit & Loss (P&L) objectives.
  • Develop and execute long-term strategic goals to drive departmental growth, increase profit margins, and improve customer retention with sales team, construction, emergency power, and service departments.

Departmental Oversight & Management

  • Oversee and manage the electrical construction division from pre-construction through completion, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Work with Project Managers (PMs) to establish accurate project budgets based on estimates, plan reviews, and risk assessments.
  • Monitor weekly job progress, comparing actual vs. budgeted costs, and implement corrective actions for projects experiencing profit erosion.
  • Identify and manage project dependencies, critical paths, and manpower forecasting for optimal resource allocation.
  • Partner with Superintendents and Field Supervisors to determine manpower needs and ensure proper labor distribution.
  • Facilitate pre-construction reviews with sales teams and project teams to assess risk, scope, and profitability opportunities.
  • Negotiate, prepare, and review contracts, ensuring favorable terms and risk mitigation.
  • Support Project Engineers in maintaining technical accuracy, code compliance, and construction best practices.
  • Develop and implement training programs for Project Managers, Engineers, and Superintendents to enhance skills and leadership capabilities.
  • Provide technical support to Project Managers and Field personnel when required.
  • Coach Project Managers in change orders and customer relations.
  • Develop and refine service workflows to enhance response times, quality control, and customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with service teams to ensure proactive maintenance programs, reducing downtime for clients.
  • Track department KPIs, ensuring performance metrics align with company profitability and efficiency goals.
  • Support the development of service contracts and agreements, ensuring profitability and customer retention strategies.
  • Identify opportunities for department expansion, including preventive maintenance programs and system upgrades.

Operations & Performance Management

  • Create a productive, goal-oriented team culture by clearly defining objectives, deadlines, and accountability structures.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Department Heads to review actual vs. budgeted progress.
  • Maintain and analyze company backlog hours reports for accurate labor forecasting.
  • Implement risk management strategies, including project risk registries and profitability enhancement plans.

Human Resources & Team Leadership

  • Partner with HR and management to recruit, interview, and hire top talent for operational roles.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for direct reports, providing feedback and leadership development plans.
  • Oversee employee terminations, ensuring compliance with HR policies and legal regulations.
  • Resolve interdepartmental conflicts, fostering a culture of collaboration and problem-solving.

Process Improvement & Compliance

  • Review and update workflows for construction, emergency power, and service divisions to improve efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure all work adheres to electrical codes and standards.
  • Implement best practices for cost control, labor efficiency, and process optimization.
  • Participate in weekly and monthly operations meetings, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and P&L accountability.
  • Expertise in electrical standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to adapt to changing project demands.
  • Excellent communication skills for team leadership, client relations, and conflict resolution.
  • Experience with risk management, project dependencies, and critical path analysis.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Financial and financial reporting experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in personnel management

  • In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, components, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in engineering software and tools.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND/OR LICENSES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Significant experience in relevant field in lieu of education are highly regarded.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a licensed electrician, with at least 5 years in a management position.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations, standards, and emerging technologies.
  • Extensive experience in electrical engineering, with a proven track record of managing large-scale projects and teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a senior management role.
