Trinity Center is seeking a seasoned and community-focused Executive Director to guide the organization through its next phase of growth. The ideal candidate will balance internal operational connections with external representation, inspiring engagement among staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners. Responsible for overall management, the Executive Director will set strategic direction with the Board, oversee budget growth, manage HR functions, lead fundraising efforts, and provide support for program operations. This role entails ensuring the sustainability of Trinity Center while upholding its values and mission, directly supervising three experienced managers.

They empower individuals in their journey toward housing, financial stability, and overall wellness. Trinity Center collaborates with the community, members, and supporters to address the devastating effects of poverty and remove barriers to stable housing through compassionate services, education, shelter, and advocacy.
Responsibilities
- FUNDRAISING and SPOKESPERSON (25%) As the public face of Trinity Center, the E.D. will promote the organization’s mission and educate the community about the needs of our clients. The E.D. will work in partnership with the board and staff to maintain our current relationships and collaborations with our individual, county, business, and foundation supporters, while developing innovative ways to increase our capacity to meet the growing need for critical services and support for adults experiencing homelessness.
- Actively participates in maintaining and expanding diversified revenue streams from individual donors as well as from private foundations and government sources.
- Represents Trinity Center’s mission and vision with partners, funders, and community members.
- Ensures the community is informed on the activities, programs, and goals of the organization.
- STRATEGY, PROGRAMS, AND PARTNERSHIPS (25%) The E.D. will work with the Board and staff to ensure that the organization has a long-range strategy that ensures the mission is fulfilled through programs, business development, and community outreach.
- Supports the Board’s development of a strategic direction, with critical input from Trinity’s staff and stakeholders.
- Leads and executes the strategic plan.
- Evaluates outcomes to ensure effective programs.
- Works with Board and staff to build strategic partnerships.
- Maintains a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field.
- Advocates for the services and opportunities that will help reduce homelessness in Contra Costa County.
- LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT (20%) Leads, coordinates, and motivates the team, including nurturing the professional development and collegiality of staff. Ensures full compliance with nonprofit business, legal, and HR policies and procedures.
- Nurtures staff development and education.
- Maintains a climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff.
- Oversees organizational development that cultivates relevant programming and the infrastructure that supports it.
- Establishes and maintains an effective system of communication internally and externally throughout the organization.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and corporate compliances.
- Oversees sound Human Resources policies and practices, with some hands-on management of payroll and other systems.
- FINANCIAL OVERSIGHT (20%) In this unique role, the ED has both the oversight responsibility of the development of the budget and fiscal planning, while providing daily management to ensure a healthy balance of income, expenses, and operating reserve.
- Develops and maintains sound fiscal policies and practices.
- Co-Chairs the Finance Committee.
- Ensures long-term fiscal planning of the organization and its assets, including a balanced revenue stream.
- Oversees monthly income and expenses.
- BOARD GOVERNANCE (10%) The E.D. works in partnership with the Trinity Center’s dedicated board to ensure the organization’s viability and adherence to the mission. Partners with the Board and Committees to leverage the knowledge, skills, and experience of board members to fulfill the organization’s mission.
- Ensures the Board of Directors are fully informed about the organization’s accomplishments and challenges.
- Serves as primary communication link between Board and staff.
Qualifications
- 5-7 years of Progressive Management Experience, including in a decision-making role. Supervision experience of director-level reports.
- Senior leadership in nonprofit or other government or social service organizations.
- Demonstrated Team-Building leadership.
- Financial Oversight and Budget Management experience.
- Oversight or management of the business operations, including compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
- Ability to build relationships with individuals and the broader community and work with multiple stakeholders.
- 3-5 years of direct experience in fundraising, particularly from Private Foundations/Institutions; Corporate Foundations, and Government Contracts.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations.
- Demonstrated experience of fostering a positive work environment.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Public speaking experience.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office programs, and other critical databases and technology for Trinity Center’s operations.
- Understanding of the systems changes needed to combat the root causes of poverty and homelessness.
Compensation
Trinity Center’s Management Team is on-site at least 80% of the time. The case management and service center staff are 100% on-site from 8 am-4pm. The Executive Director position is full-time, with offices at the Trinity Center in Walnut Creek. The position also requires some evening and weekend meetings, as well as off-site meetings with Board Members, donors, and community partners. The salary range is: $115,000 to $135,000. Benefits include dental, vision, life insurance, and employer-sponsored medical insurance.
