Engineering at Valon

We are building a world-class engineering team to automate one of the most regulated spaces in the financial sector - the mortgage and housing industry. We come from companies like Google, Facebook, Spotify, Oscar Health, and Twilio. You’ll join a small, tight-knit group of engineers who are developing flexible backend architecture to accurately handle billions of dollars at scale. Our tech stack includes Python, React, Docker, Kubernetes, and Google Cloud Platform. Our headquarters are in New York City, with a new office opening in San Francisco. This role is onsite based out of NYC or San Francisco.

Responsibilities

  1. Lead the end-to-end development and deployment of AI systems for mortgage servicing products and workflows, including document classification, call center insights, and servicing-specific agentic AI.
  2. Identify new opportunities to apply generative AI to enhance operational efficiency across the entire business.
  3. Oversee the architecture, training, and serving of open-source deep learning models using state-of-the-art infrastructure.
  4. Conduct applied product research to evaluate and integrate the latest LLM models and techniques into production systems.
  5. Ensure AI solutions adhere to regulatory standards.
  6. Mentor and guide team members, fostering an environment of continuous learning and innovation.

Ideal Background

  1. A proven track record of implementing generative AI solutions in production environments.
  2. Proficiency in tools and models such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face, and human-in-the-loop platforms like Humanloop.
  3. Experience with full-stack development, particularly with Python, React, and GCP.
  4. Industry experience in AI-focused engineering, especially with LLMs and related technologies.
  5. Strong problem-solving skills and excellent communication abilities.
  6. Ability to collaborate with product managers, founders, and operational teams to build and iterate on AI solutions.
