Education and Work Experience
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
- Oregon licensed truck driver with demonstrated driving ability and no more than one accident or moving violation within the last 12 months
- Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience driving larger commercial vehicles
- Preferred if trained and certified to operate a forklift
Scope of Position
The Truck Driver is to operate a truck in accordance with Salvation Army policy to support the overall operations of the Thrift Store and Social Services offices.

- Ability to complete job assignments, safely operate Salvation Army vehicles and support the overall mission

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate the truck safely in a manner consistent with Salvation Army policy
- Receive all items donated in a pleasant and courteous manner
- Refuse material not suitable for resale in a tactful and polite way
- Offer each donor a receipt for Income Tax purposes; the driver does not assign value to donations
- Ensure material is not damaged during handling by the driver or helper
- Make prescribed deliveries to the thrift store, social services and other programs
- Assist managers in placing items in appropriate places while in the store
- Unload the truck after donation pickups; do not leave merchandise in the back
- Perform daily safety and equipment checks and monitor fluids
- Attend safety and driver training meetings
- Assist with social services pickups, deliveries, stacking and unloading as needed
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Physical Requirements
Must be able to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, grasp, push, pull, reach overhead, and lift up to 75 lbs. The role may require working in a fast-paced environment with multiple units and interruptions.
Working Conditions
- Equipment used: Box Truck, forklift, pallet jack, dolly, shopping carts, baler
- Outdoor work, sometimes in inclement weather
- Possible exposure to communicable diseases
- Works under adverse conditions such as noise, smoke, heat, dust, rough terrain, and weather
- Environment with exhaust, dust, grime, odors, and fumes
Miscellaneous
The Salvation Army has a dress code: close-toed shoes (preferably work boots), jeans/pants without holes; shorts permissible in warmer months if at or below the knee.
