About Corning Museum of Glass

Founded in 1951 as a gift to the nation by Corning Glass Works (now Corning Incorporated) in celebration of the company’s 100th anniversary, the Corning Museum of Glass (CMoG) is a not-for-profit institution dedicated to the exploration of a single, extraordinary material: glass. The Museum welcomes nearly half a million visitors annually from around the globe to its campus, which houses the world’s most comprehensive collection of glass art, the leading library on glass, and one of the foremost glassworking schools.

Glass is a remarkable material with a rich history and a promising future, captivating artists, scientists, historians, and technologists alike. The story of glass is intertwined with art, history, culture, technology, science, craft, and design. The Museum's collection features over 50,000 objects spanning 3,500 years, from ancient artifacts to groundbreaking contemporary sculptures.

CMoG’s renowned curators, librarians, educators, and artists actively acquire new works, produce special exhibitions, lead teaching programs, and conduct influential research. CMoG brings the art of glass to life with captivating live, narrated glassworking demonstrations. Many of these daily demos are held in a renovated historic glass factory, featuring one of the largest facilities of its kind globally, with auditorium-style seating for 500 guests. Through its traveling hotshop, CMoG also offers Hot Glass Demos on The Road, allowing audiences far beyond Corning to experience the magic of glassmaking. For those eager to try glassworking themselves, the Museum offers Make Your Own Glass sessions tailored for beginners. More advanced artists can attend intensive courses at The Studio, CMoG’s internationally acclaimed glassworking school, which offers year-round programs in all levels of the craft. Through its extensive programs and global initiatives, the Corning Museum of Glass has established itself as an unparalleled authority and an inspiring leader in the world of glass art and education.
