Product Engineering is responsible for Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products, including media engineering, quality assurance, personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity.

Job Summary

As part of the Living Room Devices, Roku Client Application Engineering Team, you will help push the boundaries of what is possible on 10-foot devices. You’ll build our Disney+ Direct-to-Consumer client app for streaming Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Hulu, ESPN, NatGeo, and ABC News content on Roku devices and smart TVs.

We’re seeking a Software Engineer I for the Roku Client Application Engineering Team to develop our Disney+ client app on Roku devices. The ideal candidate has experience in software development, especially with front-end technologies like BrightScript, SceneGraph, React, or Angular.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Build client app experiences in BrightScript using Roku SceneGraph SDK
  • Develop new application features, UI/UX, analytics, video playback, etc.
  • Contribute to tools and systems outside of Roku apps, such as web tools, build scripts, AWS configurations, Node.js services
  • Work with Roku on hardware, firmware, and certification requirements
  • Collaborate with SDK engineering, design, services teams, and product owners

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience with user interface code, patterns (MVVM, MVC, React, etc.), data-driven UX
  • Familiarity with development/troubleshooting on set-top boxes or Smart TVs
  • Proficiency in reusable utilities, UI components, and generalized logic

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience creating rich, performant UIs with animations
  • Experience with various devices and performance optimization
  • Experience with templated and custom controls, asynchronous code, unit testing
  • Experience with JavaScript, DevOps, gulp, Jenkins, AWS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s in CS, IS, Software, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or equivalent experience

The salary range for Seattle, WA & NYC is $99,900–$133,900; in Glendale/Santa Monica, CA is $95,300–$127,800; in San Francisco, CA is $104,400–$140,000. Actual offers depend on location, experience, and other factors. Benefits include bonus, incentives, medical, financial, and other perks.
