Responsibilities
- This role is the primary overnight on-site supervisor responsible for all residence hall security staff between 9 PM and 6 AM.
- Assist in the protection of persons and property in and around on-campus residence halls operated by University Housing.
- Monitor safety hazards, conduct patrols, interact professionally with students and staff, maintain accurate paperwork, and provide coverage during holidays, breaks, and special events as needed.
- Oversee the overnight residence hall security staff; plan and prepare work and task schedules; maintain mutually supportive relationships with UGA police, Housing staff, and other University personnel.
- Interpret and enforce University and Housing policies, procedures, and regulations; maintain knowledge of residence hall safety and security systems and features.
- Perform foot patrols, check buildings and grounds, and respond to incidents as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum: Requires at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Evaluation of education/experience in lieu of minimum qualifications may be available through Human Resources.
- Preferred: Demonstrated knowledge of the security industry; experience with security systems (e.g., Genetec); prior supervision experience; prior work experience in education or similar setting.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties.
- Ability to remain calm and confident in stressful situations while balancing customer service needs.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Physical Demands
- Walk 5 miles or more during a shift.
- Sit at a desk and use a computer for moderate periods.
- Visual acuity to identify security or safety issues during night hours.
- Respond to crisis situations in various buildings; may require long periods on-site.
- Safely operate a UGA state vehicle as necessary.
- Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
- Occasionally perform outdoor duties in hot or cold weather conditions.

- Training and Retention: Assist in recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of security staff; participate in required annual training during off-shift hours.
- Administrative: Assist with preparation of paperwork and reports (timecards, nightly logs, incident reports); help develop and update security staff manual; maintain security equipment; perform other duties as assigned.
