Position details
Job Title: Teacher - Head Start
Location: North & Central Illinois Division / Child Care
Reports to: Site Director
Pay Grade: 205
Pay Range: $21.81-$26.17
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Safety: Demonstrates safety practices; minimizes potential hazards; provides adequate supervision; provides safety instruction.
- Health: Maintains a healthy classroom environment; plans and implements activities that promote personal health and sound nutrition.
- Learning Environment: Maintains learning environment; plans and implements activities that promote interest in learning with at least sixty minutes of center activity daily.
- Physical: Plans and implements activities that promote physical development; maintains an environment conducive to development of physical skills.
- Cognitive: Plans and implements activities that promote questioning, probing exploration and problem solving; helps children develop conceptual frameworks (classification, seriation, number, spatial relations, representation, time).
- Communication: Promotes listening, clear articulation and language production; promotes adult-child and child-child communication.
- Creative: Supplies equipment and materials that encourage creativity; encourages innovative uses of materials and divergent thinking.
- Self: Assesses each child\'s current skill level; writes observation notes weekly on CAR; summarizes skills twice per year on COR; plans activities to maximize opportunities for success; provides positive feedback to children when appropriate.
- Social: Develops awareness of feelings and emotions; serves as a role model; capitalizes on spontaneous empathy throughout the day.
- Guidance: Maintains a preventive discipline environment; enforces consistent classroom discipline; sets and enforces appropriate limits; maintains positive classroom control; organizes smooth transitions.
- Families: Involves parents in the classroom and in extending the program to the home; shares progress with parents; helps plan in-home activities; conducts home visits in specified months; acts as liaison between components and parents.
- Program Management: Uses diverse resources; plans classroom programs in a timely manner; completes weekly/daily lesson plans; submits records and reports when due; maintains accurate attendance and food counts; coordinates with program resources; ensures team cooperation; supervises assistant teachers and aides.
- Professionalism: Maintains a professional attitude and keeps current with early childhood education practices.
- Other Duties: Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education.
- One year experience teaching in a preschool setting.
