Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Human Resources Associate for the Shapiro Center located in Kankakee, Illinois to assist higher level professional staff in completing and processing personnel transactions. This includes personnel administration activities such as personnel transactions, group insurance programs, maintenance of control records and files, and interpretation of Personnel Rules, Pay Plan and contract agreements, etc.

Essential Functions

  • Assists higher level professional staff in completing and processing personnel transactions for Shapiro Center, e.g., appointments, leaves of absence, transfers, salary adjustments, discharges, promotions, separations, merit compensation reviews, etc.
  • Receives requests for filling of vacancies.
  • Prepares and processes Group Insurance transactions.
  • Composes and keyboards routine correspondence, confidential letters, memos, reports, job descriptions and recruitment letters.
  • Prepares monthly reports of employee performance evaluations due.
  • Maintains office's personnel and confidential filing systems.
  • Conducts new employee orientation for new hires and transfer employees.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college OR satisfactory completion of an approved training program.
  • Requires the ability to keyboard accurately at thirty (30) wpm.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to operate commonly used manual and automated office equipment, systems and software and perform routine maintenance.
  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  • Requires the ability to work after business hours weekends and holidays.
  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
