Dominion Builders, with our subsidiary DAG, is seeking an experienced construction professional to join our growing team as Chief Estimator and play a pivotal role in delivering commercial construction projects across the US ranging from $3 million to $20 million in value. We are looking for a highly motivated, process-driven, detailed oriented individual to handle all estimating and preconstruction services for the firm. Here is some additional information about the role:
Primary Responsibilities
The Senior Estimator is responsible for full range estimating functions and pre-construction services for commercial construction projects throughout the United States. Core functions include:

• Prepare detailed estimates for the project based on the schematic, design development and construction drawings/specifications by completing quantity take-offs, analysis, estimate input from subcontractors/vendors and studies for all items incorporated in the assigned scope
• Lead the document management for the project, including receiving drawings and specifications, providing the proper file structure and distribution to all parties
• Serve as liaison with subcontractors, the design team (architects, engineers, consultants), and client during the pre-construction phase
• Support constructability reviews through communication with the project team, designers, and subcontractor market
• Develop a value engineering study by defining alternatives to the proposed scope that are more cost-efficient
• Responsible for understanding all factors required for a comprehensive trade package scope including contract documents, site logistics, schedule, coordination, means and methods
• Coordinate with Project Manager and Superintendent to ensure that General Conditions and General Requirement items are properly addressed in the estimate
• Prepare scope requisitions for assigned trades as required; coordinate with the project team to eliminate scope gaps and overlaps
• Prepare a comparison analysis to previous estimates for the assigned scope
• Obtain and evaluate subcontractor proposals relative to their scope of work
• Document information into Bid Recording Sheet, organize and participate in Post Bid Review
• Manage action items from Post Bid and finalize subcontract scope

• Make recommendations for software upgrades
• Make recommendations for database pricing changes
• Market work to Existing Clients
• Ensures database pricing updates are completed regularly
• Perform other duties as required by project needs
  

Key Requirements

• 10+ years of commercial construction estimating experience
• Knowledge of takeoff & estimating software packages
• Knowledge of construction pricing
• Knowledge of conceptual estimating

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to present ideas in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing
• An inquisitive, critical thinker who is dept at anticipating and solving problems in a timely, effective manner
• Able to establish and maintain cooperative and productive relationships with co-workers, clients and vendors
• Able to perform within a team-oriented organizational structure with minimal supervision
• Excellent time management/prioritization skills
• Well organized and capable of approaching situations in a calm and logical manner
• Possesses a strong desire to learn new information and methods in pursuit of continuous improvement
• Accountable to working within budgeted schedules and meeting deadlines
• Experienced in presenting estimating results to clients
  

Other Considerations

• Candidates who reside locally are preferred
• Some travel required for client meetings and site visits
